Bought this Garand a few weeks ago, it's great (for an airsoft gun) but it's been running at 410 fps. So to comply with site rules, (only in WW2 games, I might add) it's got to drop to 350 fps.
A pleasant suprise to change the spring, thought it might be a bit of a git, as M14's are, gearbox has to come apart of course, but compared to some this was easy, a straight forward operation. Put in a M110 spring, and back together all within the hour and a cup of tea! Changed a few cross head screws for slot type, and a stronger spring in the gas tube at the front, so when or if using the cocking action, it doesn't smash onto the stop (did this to both my M14 socoms, didn't like the idea of it clanking monkey metal to monkey metal).
Put some bb's through the chrono.........378-380 fps.......looks like it's coming out again!
With a bit of messing about I reckon I can convert it to a quick change spring affair, there's enough room for this. Done 3 Thompson's to quick change, and 1 stg 44, so my little system works and makes my life in the world of airsoft spring changing a lot easier.

The gas tube assembly on a lot of the M14 based aegs are a real weak point. I've managed to break two in as many years.

I've only seen 1 broken gas tube on an M14, its not surprising really seeing how much of the gas tube and barrel section protrude from the stock and it's only zinc alloy, which I like to call " monkey metal". At least the M1 is shorter so hopefully has a better chance of survival, but not too complicated to copy using mild steel if it so happens. Time and rough handling will tell!

Done the spring change bit again today, just over the hour,( with tea as well, of course!) now down to 348-351fps, using a M105 spring by Element.
The spring guide is the same as a v2 guide and is plastic, Ihave two or three metal guides with bearings....all v3! I'll get one for next time. Also the cutofff lever is the same as v2 gearbox uses, so changed that for a Nuprol steel one, replacing the monkey metal one, should last a lot longer.
All ready for battle!
