Hi there all, I've been considering building an SVT-40 for a while now, and I've sourced a repro wood stock for it, but I'm unsure what airsoft gun to drop into it. my thoughts so far:
TM M14
CYMA M14- Fps dropped to 330
A&K Springer dragunov- Fps dropped to 330
The Tm would be good because well its a tm and the fps doesn't require adjustment, the cyma would be good because its cheaper than the tm, and the dragunov would be good because it would require a lot less removed from the stock and also it would be nice to have a springer.
Any thoughts? Anyone tried this and if so what works best?
I understand your desire for one
On the face of it, you'll have a similar problem to people doing G43 conversions.
The SVT stock is fairly narrow and not very deep.
The TM M14 internals would be a great bet as long as they fit in the stock. Your problem will come if you need to trim or cut any of the TM parts, which would mean you could potentially end up with a useless M14 should you kill the project. The V7 gearbox is ok, but, in my opinion, having the switch gear on the outside of the gearbox casing doesn't make it the narrowest of gearboxes.
The A&K would be a good choice for a springer as its width and "depth" is fairly flat, meaning it would probably fit easier into the SVT stock, plus you've no batteries or bulky gearbox to worry about cramming in with it.
My 2 pence worth anyway
With regard to the TM Vs Cyma M14's, I'd go for the Cyma every time. The one I had was one of the best performing stock AEG's I've ever owned. Shot straight, with great accuracy, and out-ranged everything else on the field except Tanaka K98's...
The SVD method might be easier though, as you might struggle to fit the motor into the stock 'neck' without weakening it massively. Same problem as using non-airsoft repro Garand stocks.
I am leaning towards the Dragunov idea because it is cheaper than the others, its relatively easy to open up and downgrade, and it seems better to have a bolt action SVT rather than one that can do full-auto.
Ever considered an mp40 gearbox? I can't remember where (likely this forum) but I have seen a G41 aeg built using one. A little harder to come by but you'd be able to avoid weakening the stock. If you want I could measure up my 40' gearbox so you could check if it was a viable option
I suppose that could work but the reason I was going to use an M14/ Dragunov is that it already looks quite similar to an SVT, and only requires a small amount of work, unlike if i just had a greabox and therefore i'd have to buy all the svt metalwork.
Cheers anyway though
No trouble, I guess I was assuming alot. Thought you were going "from the ground up" with this build as conversions never look particularly convincing in my opinion. :L
I've seen several successful SVT 40 builds using:
1) springer A&K dragunov
2) Springer A&K dragunov with a modified M14 gearbox
3) M14 internals
The best of these was the A&K dragunov-M14 gearbox combo, and second was the springer. I can't recall of the purely M14 based build was finished.
The MP40 gearbox won't fit.
jiimmiroquai can you post some img of your svts?
