hi all!

I am hoping to eventually get a tanaka k98k but am a bit concerned about the fps level which if reports are accurate is about 550-600 fps.....

is this true?.... any ideas of how to reduce the fps anyone?.....

thanks!

Get the "G" version, it has a screw-in gas route restrictor. Less gas means less FPS. If you cant find a "G" version, have a look at the hong kong shops - you can find the "G" conversion kit for the standard K98K at a few 'of em.

Latest version of the K98K from Tanaka is pre-restricted anyway due to new Japanese firearm laws - it only does about 260 on green

However you can as kermit says get the G-version kit (which in this case allows you to increase the fps) or you could do a bit of modification to the restricted nozzle. It is only a bit of brass and could be drilled out quite easily if you are any good at that sort of thing.

Gucci told me that a member of these forums can supply alternate restrictors to change the power on the new Kar98's? I'm not sure of the details. I think he said it was TheChef...

I run two mausers, both original pre-gspec. One is a full length sporterised mid-century period hunting rifle, the other is a G44 carbine.

I use the carbine as a scouting rifle and run it with .29 grand master rounds and HFC134a gas. As for my sporter, its only ever approached 550 kind of levels on very hot summer days, typically it sits just under 500.

The 134/.29 combo really works well, make sure your hop and barrel are clean (especially if you've been using .43 graphite rounds) and you should get very consistent results, as well as happy marshals ;).
