I have a cyma Thompson and an AGM sten mk2 and love them both, the sten has incredible range for such a short barrel and is solid,
The Thompson has a plastic stock, can use a large battery and (if this floats your boat) you can get hicaps for it
The sten uses a stick battery (or lipo) and can only use low/mid caps

I think it's fair to say that I've heard of no major problems with any of the Thompsons or Stens out there in the market place. They're all good guns from all manufacturers.
The real thing you need to consider is what you want to play as.
A sten is the correct SMG for most brits, but won't really do for much else. The mags though are compatible with the MP40, which is helpful.
The Tommy gun is the correct SMG for a yank, but some were used in the british army, but depending on the theatre and type of brit, may or may not be correct. Also if using it as a brit you really want the M1928 model rather than the M1A1 and a correct M1928 model is hard to come by, most airsoft M1928s have the wrong receiver.

If you ever want to get into other periods of historical airsofting, get the sten silenced and you could use it for Vietnam era US Special Forces

Tokyo Marui
Both of them are reliable guns out of the box.
Both still have imitated wood furniture. King arms have a variant available with real wood furniture. I haven't tried these, but expect them to be the ultimate solution with regards to how it looks.

Snake missed the fact that the Cyma/Cybergun outer barrel/gripmount joint is "reinforced", but the TM one isn't
Also, both have plastic lower receivers, but at least one of the King Arms variants has a metal lower receiver.

They might be a little bit more sturdy in the joint, but I have seen them break in the very same place that the Tokyo Marui model does.

Indeed they can... ...but not as easily ![]()

I agree that you need to start with what are you playing? I have a CDMA Thompson and an agm stem and they are both excellent. If you are going to skirmish on open days much then the Thompson has the edge because you can get hicaps for it. But that said I've done my last 2 open days at fireball with my sten and a bunch of mid caps and haven't been outgunned yet.
So start with how hardcore historical do you want to be because Yith is right, if you are going Brit then the sten is really the right option. But if you aren't 100% focused on historical accuracy then it's even odds between them for me.

Oh also, if you are used to modern guns like an M4 then a Thomson will feel really big for a while. They are surprisingly chunky and obviously don't have a folding stock option. The sten is a lot more compact.
