Received in post today, a version 2 gearbox with QD spring facility, made by Jing Gong ( JG ) from eBay. Very well made piece.
This fits an M4/M16 aeg, but it also slots straight into an Stg 44, may have slight bit of work to fit motor mount, but no more than a hole expansion. The price? £58 for complete gearbox, less motor. This then leaves a spare gearbox for a leasurley rebuild.
By the way the hop unit in the stg is exactly the same as the M4/M16 as well.
Already fitted a specna gearbox in one stg 44, so this is for the other one.......cheaper than the specna!

V2 gearbox in, easy fit. new hop unit as well,.......only fires on single shot, remove casing, fires on auto, will have to change selector slide by the look of it, not a big job ......if the other one fits, looks slightly different. the other one with specna gearbox fitment, no problems at all.
nothing that a little bit of "fettling" won't cure.

When rebuilding a STG - safety selector fitting is a random process - at least in my experience - I couldn't find what I did wrong first ten times. Luckily the 11th was working very well.
What doesn't work from V2 range of supplies is the hop-up chamber ProWin type. For STG you must go for the original V2 chamber as replacement because it is using a metal part to keep it vertical. It is not like the M4 that is locked by the horizontal fins.
With a little care for the wires you can actually make the Quick change feature work in a STG since you won't need to remove the gearbox from the receiver to access the rear end as in the M4. So overall a good upgrade for this model

I found the selector plate was very thin compared to the original gearbox one, the others I have are thicker, luckily the one I bought to replace with is of the the thicker type, so don't have to cannibalise another gearbox.
Works fine now, it must have been overriding on switching. With a long flat blade screwdriver, and a torch, the spring change is under 4 minutes! Might make a special tool instead of screwdriver, I have a spring guide somewhere that has an Allen key recess, will make it a lot steadier to apply the change.
Now both stg's have QD spring change boxes!
