Hi Lads,
Im coming close to the end of my enfield build, and my next winter project is a Vickers. After hearing the inspiration of having sound for dadios and cheeky chaps mg i was rather keen on having sound. Having speakers in the water cooled barrel, but im having trouble finding a decent recording/sound, does anyone have any idea where i can get some?

I always use youtube for all my gun shot shound effects there are so many good ones on there with some editing they are perfect.
I don't know what you are using I find the small MP3 players from China on ebay are perfect less than £10 posted but you will need an amp on them.
I fit them in my radio sets, this one on the tank uses music and gun shots mixed.
So it could be fixed up with the coaxial gun for gun shots only, no real space problem on a tank though.

Free speech is expensive these days!
Thanks for the help! all useful stuff, im going for the cheap mp3 player in compartment at the bottom, the linked to some dissembled portable speakers, battery powered, hopefully they should give enough volume for the effect
Sounds excellent, can't wait to see this!
Haha thanks, acquired a load of original plans (after which i shall frame ), a big sheet of metal and a drain pipe, we'll see what happens
look forward to seeing/hearing this one, one thing i should mention about the sound on the mg42 is that its blue toothed from the gun to a 200watt sound system in a separate ammo crate, im not sure that there is sufficient space even in a Vicker's to mount a loud enough system to be worthwhile ,however there is plenty of scope for ammo crates to use as amp's.please don't take this as criticism or even stop you trying it as i'm often wrong, more of offering a viable other option ,on the mg42 its surprising how quickly the internal space was taken up.

Give me a big enough hammer and a place to stand and I could fix the world.
i'll kill a man in a fair fight or if i think he's going to start a fair fight or over a woman or.......
a problem shared is a problem halved ,but an advantage shared is no advantage at all
if a job's not worth doing then its certainly not worth doing well
No, course i wont take it as criticism! thats another great idea! I've ordered some speakers that my friend had (he kindly let me take them apart to check dimensions) but I wasnt able to test sounds volume/quality. If its not good enough hey got some portable speakers and i'll use my old amp instead
Great idea Dadio like it.
One day I have to have a go at an airsoft with a gas simulator built in.

Water sleeve?
Also, wouldn't it be easiest instead of having an mp3 system have something mechanical, like an autodrum? With a small hammer hitting a hollow metal "drum"? The sound would not be exactly the same as the original gun, but it would probably resemble an HMG firing.

i remember toy guns that worked that way ,when you pulled the trigger it turned a wheel and striker that hammered a drum type thing, again to make it loud enough to hear from the bad end of the barrel might be hard, it really depends on who is to hear it/benefit from it,the gunner or the victim.

A metallic barrel sleeve might work as a good acoustic box. After all this is exactly how mechanical alarm clocks and door bells work and quiet they are not
