Bugger regs, we are making hay while the sun shines, it could all go tits up soon! We have a good relationship with the locals (insisting on priority for the army of course) and official lines of supply are unreliable. We have to eat and its all there at our feet. Note: we are feeding ourselves, not the German army - we don't have the field kitchens and it ain't our job.
If we want to do something for the public's benefit (and they love cooking, particularly the women folk - they ain't interested in guns) then perhaps we can make something more of lunch. Rather than empty tins into a pot as we have done in the past we could do some food preparation. At a PBI do at Crich I spent an hour peeling spuds which went down well - so some peeling and chopping for minestrone or similar? We need stuff to do and have loads of time to fill.

Look, I spent €85 on a white M33 working jacket and this is probably the only time I'll ever get to use it. Don't kill the dream. GIVE ME SPUDS OR GIVE ME DEATH.
As explained, I'm happy to do / cook whatever you like.

All this talk of food is making peckish
...No matter what we do in the day its always nice to have a pre made meal at the end of the day,no messing just put it in a pan and sit back with a can.

At the end of the day it IS a good plan, the trick I think is to think a bit more about the midday meal, as much for the public as us. ![]()

I've asked Les if fire pits/open fires are allowed for his show - without that my question of cooking for the public is academic!

yes fires are welcome
but must be above ground
on either metal box or can
but must not touch the ground
for safety reasons as this is an explosive sitejust need it raised

So my idea was to make a bit of a deal out of the preparation just for summat to do and have a crack at cooking over the open fire. I've never used an open fire before so it may not work...in which case plan B comes into action, which is the pre-prepared stuff that I'll bring along. Just needs heating up.
I have white apron, jacket and hat just like these guys

I've seen pics of similar outfits work by field cooks at mobile field kitchens, either wearing the apron or apron and hat. Also lots of pics of blokes prepping food wearing white M33 jackets.
Are we going to have silver service as well?
You will have to bring your officer's canteen Dave - and the candelabra!

HOOOO..you'll like the new fire frame then Martin..it has a bared shelf and plenty off hooks for the ladles and all other bits and bobs to hang off and six chain hooks.

Two ring burner? Have you been on those gay porn sites again Dave?
I'll bring my gas stove as well, it was a bit of a wait to do brekky for the few of us at Ripley, another will keep the kettle boiling. ![]()

I read that as "a bare shelf and plenty of hooks for the ladies" - ah, so it's one of THOSE events....

Fingers crossed.

I wore this at one of Taffy John's Events
Not sure about the cap insignia - for me, not for you. I'm sure yours was spot on
I've seen many pics of kitchen and stores types wearing white cotton caps with no insignia, which seems to make sense as it was work wear. Plus the whole deal about WH birds versus SS birds sounds like a cockade in the Arsch.
It was a pure fantasy get up lol
