So, are any more of Jerry planning on coming to this?

Sadly I'm away on holiday otherwise I'd be booked for this Pete.

“I wanted to come to the Volga at a specific location at a specific city. By chance it carries the name of Stalin himself. So don’t think I marched there for this reason – it could carry another name – but because there is a very important goal... this goal I wanted to take – and you know – we are very modest, we have it already."
Adolf Hitler, November 1942

"Comrades, Red Army men, commanders and political workers, men and women guerrillas! It is on your perseverance, staunchness, fighting skill and readiness to discharge your duty to the country that the defeat of the German-fascist army and the liberation of the Soviet land from the Hitlerite invaders depend! We can and must clear the Soviet land of Hitlerite vermin."
Joseph Stalin, November 1942

erm i't may sound obvious but , it's a D Day game what side are most English players likely to want to portray in such an iconic battle , to be honest i'm a little surprised i decided to go German for this one but it just happens i've done the last two games British so it's just the right time to switch sides for me.i hope we see a few German's book on soon though or it will be a bad trend.

This will be great fun for German players. Counter-attacks and flanking FTW!

Plus, think of the ambushes we can set up! This site is perfect for ambushing!

Plus using MGs like they should be used, well-fed weapons of domination and suppression. No crippling of fire-power for the sake of 'airsoft fairness' in this game!

A friend and I wouldn't object to playing Jerry, but we haven't much in the way of uniforms. If uniform rules can be relaxed on the basis of being a sniping team I'm sure we could manage to haul *something* together though!

I'm not sure a 'sniping team' would be wearing anything other than a basic field grey uniform anyway - our uniform requirements are very basic really. There isn't really a sniper role in this game, very much squad based, especially given the numbers. There is a thread to ask for the loan of kit, so do please post up there, bound to come up trumps. :good:

To be honest I struggle to find photographs of German Snipers in the field wearing anything other than camouflage smocks (and the rest obv, no point running round Normandy in a camp smock and yer willy swinging loose). Seeing as there are so few Germans stepping up it strikes me that a bit of force multiplication can't really go amiss! Especially the way the German fight has been described above... a sniper team sounds like it would make a major contribution.

Also, my friend and I are (to put it politely) somewhat 'smaller' than most WW2 Airsoft players (in two dimensions) so borrowing kit is likely to be an issue... nevertheless no harm in asking...

A splinter camo smock teamed with grey trousers is perfectly OK, indeed I can lend a splinter zelt which would suffice (one size fits all!). But a sniper team holed up waiting for the single telling shot of the day doesn't fit in with the scenario I'm afraid - it has with past games but not this. Of course, 'snipers' in general just mean an unseen gunman with a bolt action - take a look at the diaries I linked to and you will see frequent reference to snipers - so in that context all German players with a rifle are snipers!

My friend is about 5'4" so one size fits none for her ;) Trousers are the problem for us mainly, I have a smock but trousers for both of us would be cost prohibitive if I am to afford to attend anything and save up for my rifle....

Ahh there my friend you are not describing someone playing a Sniper but a Snipetard! Sniping in the real world involves reconnaissance, force multiplication, ambush, and support of attacks counter-attacks and defence. It is a far more active role than what you have in mind...

Heh, I was explaining that there is no role for a sniper team in this scenario. You may be interested to know that Sgt.Heide, fellow organiser, was a real sniper by trade so we are well aware of the role but it definitely isn't for this game. 'Snipers' in a WW2 context is a vry commonplace description and is a generic phrase. Everyone feared a 'sniper'!

A zelt will fit anyone (pretty much) so all you need to ask for is grey trousers and a helmet. You can probably borrow a rifle too, so no need to fork out for that either.

I was initially suggesting that as a justification for slightly non-standard uniform in order to get a few more players so this game might actually happen?

In what way non-standard?

Dom, there is no need for anything "non standard"
Simply post up what you need and it's almost a given that someone will have something to lend you or your friend.

As CW has explained, this will be a squad based game and if it is anything like previous CiA events, you can expect to fill roles that involve recon, patrol, scout, ambush and balls-out firefights.
Sitting behind a tree for six hours with your buddy probably won't be on the menu.

If you do end up coming along (I'm guessing it's your first WWII game) and you don't go home feeling that it was the best airsoft gig you've ever experienced, I'll give you your money back
And I'm not even an organiser for this, so have no inside info. Just absolute certainty that it will be awesome.
:D

Au contarire gents I have been to two events so far and loved both utterly! I have never played German however so do not have the kit, if people have kit to offer may I kindly suggest they post this in the kit borrowing/lending thread? If people know there are uniforms to fit them they are more likely to sign up to play German and make this actually happen.

However if this is an event where stitch-counting will be an issue I'll probably not come. There is nothing quite as good at ruining the mood as someone tapping you on the shoulder and telling you your buckle on your webbing wasn't issued until six months later. And once one has forked out £100-odd in order to make it to said game it would be doubly irritating.

Relax Dom , we'v met and i'm sure you have the right game attitude but i have yet to have anybody criticize me on non exact kit , it really is nice to see everyone in matching kit but not to the extent that a game fail's to get enough player's because you have the wrong belt buckle for that day , CW is flexible on kit exactitude ,he's just explaining that a sniper role wont fit the style of game he has planned .
