Slowly working my way into writing a game set in Occupied Europe.

Probaly stage it at Fireball (with very limited numbers) and on a non-walk on day.

Imagine the setting, a tranquil French village, people are walking around, the cafe is open, tea and coffee is being served.
The newspapers are telling the citizens how well Hitler is fighting in Russia.

Suddenly the peace is broken, a bomb under a kubelwagen has exploded killing the driver and wounding two other German soldiers.

The hunt is now on for the sabatures. This event would probably be more of a role play, if I can ever get it finished, rather than a battle event.

Hopefully watch this space. 8)

And my response would be to round up all civilians and shoot them in groups of 20 until the sabateurs were found!

Small battles which could be attempted - Carentan: a vital town to be taken, to stop the Panzers coming. Hurtgen forest. Foy. Monte Cassino. Anzio. If we had a load of guys with Soviet loadout, we could do so much more! 8)

Well here in Merseyside we have Altcar rifle range, which backs on to sand dunes and the beach.
My local gun club has hired the area a number of times from the MOD, there are signs telling the public not to walk down the beach when the red flags are up due to live fire!

MAP HERE
There are toilets and a cafe on site and bailey bridges to drive over!
If you pick the right day there may be no one else there.
DID SOMEONE SAY THEY LOST THIER ARIAL PHOTOGRAPHS

I would think there are times during the year that Altcar is not being used at all.
This was only a suggestion thrown into the pot as the MOD was already mentioned and the fact that some people wanted a D-Day option.
Also the chances of the public wandering in are greatly reduced due to its location being known as a live fire area and having the signage in place. As you say I don

I think in all seriouness we need to do european scenarios.

Before western desert lets do italy or the med as that will allow us to mix desserts, denims and wool kit, give folk time to build up loadouts.

Italy/Siciliy makes a lot of sense, diverse mix of axis units, partisan involvment and US/UK close collaboration.

Also diverse terrain from arid rocky country to expansive forest.

The only other option is a winter eastern fornt game where greatcoats wil cover thelack of unifomr.

Not being able to afford it is always my last consideration.!

Ha ha ha ! Siciliy would be good, you could have the Brits and the Germans slogging it out under Monty, whilst the Yanks run amlessly around the site and take a parade with Patton at the end .

Eastern Front would indeed be brilliant. Trouble is, at the moment it would be you and Mr Flibble vs the whole German army!

And one of you, of course, will have to be a Guard, shooting anyone who takes "one step back"!
