Arnhem Game scenarios

I envision a two phase operation.

Phase one is set in stone, phase two can go either way depending on play up till lunch.

Phase 1.

It never snows in September

Overview:
The allied airborne invasion catches the Germans completely by surprise. German forces are scattered across the town. Model is in his HQ (the Hartenstein and get hurried reports of allied Paratroops. He hurries to move his HQ believing himself to be the target of a raid. However his HQ will take at least 45 minutes to secure confidential information and leave in good order.

Meanwhile UK forces concentrate on their own objectives.

A main force of paras and airlanding race to the bridge while a smaller force moves to the Hartenstein hotel to secure it as divisional HQ - unaware Model is there.

The Dutch civilians believing this to be their day of liberation break open hidden arms caches, don armbands as a uniform and prepare to wage war against their occupiers!

Initial deployment:

UK forces: UK forces deploy at the glider landing zone marked on Yith's map.

Dutch resistance: Begin the game in their place of residence

Heer forces begin the game scattered in pockets of three or four at various point s in the site, they will be unknown to allied forces.

Model must select five aides. He and the aides must attempt to hold the hotel for 45 minutes and avoid capture. If he avoids capture axis forces get xx points. Should he avoid capture and hold for 45 minutes they gain xx points.

Waffen ss forces start tat the main safe area they represent 9th and 10th ss panzer screaming into the town to counter attack the landings.

Objectives:

Key objectives: The bridge ramp = xx points.
Hartenstein hotel = xx points

ARP points = xx points

Doctors = xx points

Capturing a regimental aid post = xx points.

Lines of march:

UK forces must advance along the route marked.
Dutch forces are free to move without restriction
Heer forces may move without restriction.
Waffen SS must use their marked line of march until contact with UK forces is made.

Phase one continues until lunchtime. The main focus of the battle will be for the bridge however there are two subplots. These are to be kept t

Now phase 2.

Worlks like this, if the germans hold the bridge at lunchtime thern we go to phase 2 'historical'

If they dont them we go to pahse 2 'fictional'

Phase 2 historical is based around the defence of the hartenstein wiht the end of the day being a stelathy evacuation of UK forces.

Fictional involves the 3rd lift dropping well on target and a UK airborne offensive agsint dug in germans around the bridge.

Howeveri'm loathe to write them up in full if you think phase 1 is shite...

Bugger it, it's two months to the game and I wanna play - now!

I think it's great so far and on first reading see no major pitfalls, but then I don't want to start picking holes in it at this early stage... bring on the afternoon game!

Cheers Dave, i'm trying to accomplish the following
1) make it simple not too much to remember
2) stop bottlenecks by thaving sub objectives and reasons to use the full side (arps, sub plots supply drops)
3) keep it fun and like a war film not an exercise.

Only had a quick read through there... but sounds good for a start.

Looks good and very KISS , gets my vote.
Not quite sure about the SS deployment , but like the idea !

Sound like we could do with somne works of art props - cue Guy's impressionist phase !

Reckon I'll buy a couple of arty posters and knock them onto a frame or two . ( Or if you can scan and print some David? )
How many do you reckon - 3 or 4 ?
Thought Sunflowers and maybe the scream as well, although the Nazis hated modern art.
A couple mit der big boobies would be good for a giggle too .

Nice subplot idea BTW !

I can print 'em onto canvas - they can be removed from the frames and rolled up - true brutal art theft!! (disguising them as sausages is probably a bridge too far though   ) Actually, just for the game purpose I might as well just scan from an art book...

Excellent, I love the idea of the art being hung on the wall , with the SS pulling them down and ripping the canvas from the frames. How cool is that ?
Need a bit of choreographing perhaps but that's a cracking plot.
We could go a bit further and have some stautes / busts as well perhaps ?

Don't worry too much about choreography for this... not many will see it.

Well not unless we can get some people with video cameras on site. I suspect that this time I may be too busy to take much... unless Gadge wants to be 1IC?

I'mnot fussed suits me fine. in fact with your style of play rich probaby a good idea.

you're very 'prone to capture' leading from the front!

Ok on closer reading we need to have the back route to the embassy marked 'railway cutting' and it was used at the battle as a route to the town

We also need the main attack route for the allied marked on the map as Utrecht to arnhem road

Landing zone is 'LZ - S'

Did have a thought today .

For the start why not let the German's breif at the CP and then spread out through the site on patrol - Whilst the allies are "glidered in" to the DZ in groups of 10 in the transit van .

Might be gay , might be good . They'll land / deploy and take up positions , and the German won't know where the Allies will start from which may add something to the confusion . They should be able ot get 30 players on the DZ uncontested, by the time the germans start reporting in gliderborne troops to the HQ .

just a thought !
