Sorry... I've always been one for the real feel to the site.

Its one of the things I really like about the Phoenix site, its all real. No paintball bollocks!

When Shaun at LF (Now SYA) suggested putting barrels and tires around the new LFU, exactly the same thoughts came to mind.

Well Dave asked us what we want... I guess I've answered that! Whatever it is has to look real. Otherwise I really don't mind to much what it is... as long as it doesn't ruin one of the many atmospheric areas of the site.

As for "negative"... heh... pot calling the kettle black there Dave! ;)

Breeze blocks wouldn't be much better than piles of tires or barrels... I wouldn't have thought there'd be any breeze blocks in Arnhem in the 40s! ;)

I had an idea on the way home that I forgot to mention. (I've been looking after Brendan all evening whilst Rachel was out). How about we keep the Embassy as the Hartenstein Hotel. However just say the RAF have bombed it in our version of Arnhem. Then we use the medic block(hospital) as the HQ or perhaps the "stand-alone" factory building that was just on the approach road? It'd make a lot more sense than trying to badge somewhere totally unsuitable up as the Hartenstein hotel.

AHA... just thought of something else... an ideal place from our point of view for an indoor complex of rooms, if Dave G wants to build it would be near the big doorway on the entrance ramp to the bridge, that room is way to open at the moment.

I think it's good that they have asked US what we would want, they could equally cancel the event , so top marks on that one .
The loss of the hotel is a downer , but the game will still be a good one .
For my money you'd want a building close to the same location as it means we can keep with the original plan . Having thought about this what would be good for play is to keep the players spread out over the site rather than having all 70 converve on one large stagnant firefight .

Re breeze blocks , frankly who gives a knacker , he's not going to build an art deco hotel just for us is he ?

Both those places are too close to the 'bridge' action and the medical block will be a Dutch dominated area - we need to push out into the site in the opposite direction hence my suggestions of the old safezone / Tech Lab.

As far as building stuff - what about the end on the large warehouse where there is a large flat concrete platform with some vertical steelwork and crinkly sheeting (if you can remember - where we did some axis photos, kicking up dust for effect?). Easy to build on and well away from bridge & drop zone conflict.

Id have to look at the tech lab but so far it makes the most sense, then the old safe, i agree with dave.

I'll do a vid of the Tech Lab area on Sunday, with some footage of the Embassy so that the situation is clear for all of us.

always better to be pulled by reconnaisance than pushed by HQ!

Sound idea

I'm not sure where the tech lab is.

As for medic block being too close to dutch dominated areas... don't forget its supposed to be the UK HQ for most of the time. It needs to be not too far from the UK regen points!

Also it may not matter too much if its a bit close to the bridge anyway...

My reservation wiht the med block is well spend the entire day fighting over 100 square metres rather than having two areas to fight for, reinforce and enocurage movement.

Also the med block is full of glass windows that we cant knock out and its a bit open on the approaches if you allow people to fire out the broekn window sections.

I see what you're saying about the area being fought over and yes that may be the case... however it doesn't have to be if we have a think about it. Its a great building after all.

The glass windows can be removed Jeff seemed open to it... especially as me and Guy found another one which was a major H&S risk in there that needed sorting..

Thinking tactially about the situation I'd probably use the medi block as my HQ for the battle if I had the choice...

Just to note that broken windows will have glass knocked out, unbroken windows will remain, glass on floor removed.

YES! Mansfield was voted one of the top three worst places to live by Ch4.

The other two were Nottingham and Hull.

Clay Cross is on a par, but a lot smaller.

Any news on the state of buildings at PU yet, Dave?

Right, just uploaded the vids.

First off the embassy - just a shell now. External walls are sound but internal steels have warped and dislodged supporting brickwork. It will be playable through when (if) internal walls, steelwork and chimneys are pulled down but as it stands it unusable other than a backdrop!

Turn your sound down, very windy day and I couldn't be bothered to remix!
http://www.ww2airsoft.org.uk/video/embassy.wmv

And some footage of the Tech Development block for those that can't remember it:
http://www.ww2airsoft.org.uk/video/tech-dev.wmv

And the medical block:
http://www.ww2airsoft.org.uk/video/mediblock.wmv

Clearly the medi block would make the best substitute 'hotel' and would be do-able if the proposed bridge approach is switched to the road leading towards the safezone.

Right... okay so its gone... cry cry... right what's left and the damage isn't actually too bad.

None of the surroundings have been effected. In actual fact it looks rather good... if horrifically dangerous!

Thats the tech block... ah!!! Right next to safezone.

Not sure how much use its going to be though! Maybe an building on the entry to the ramp? An objective? Though I think we'd need the cars to be moved further away.

As for the transit we can get around that. Gucci has said we can use his.

Medic building is the new "hotel"... and the bridge is moved. Simple! :)

I suggest we say the hotel was bombed and we have to use the Hospital as an HQ...

Thats that buggered then ! Shame to see it in such a forlorn state. Not sure if having a substitue Hotel is what we need or a substitute German HQ if you see the difference. Liked the original ramp, as it does look like a ramp as such , even if it's a bit unplayable.

I think the tech block would more logically be used as the German base/regen at the foot of the bridge ramp. Slight complication with the 'new' ramp which I will try and outline in a while.

http://www.ww2airsoft.org.uk/video/alt-ramp.pdf

This shows pretty much the current state of the site - red areas being out of bounds/unusable.

If the ramp is now heading towards the safezone you will see I have marked a caravan (lived in) on the roadway. (Direction of the red dotted arrow)

The direction of attack will have to swing to the left past the locker rooms towards the tech dev buildings, which will be fine as it will provide a strong point of defense. (Direction of the black arrow)

Yes thats how I imagined it going...

Looking at that, I'd use the railway line as the effective location of the river.
