OK, can we bin that thread into the holding area until we've clarified WTF they're playing at?

That might cause problems - I suspect Jamie hasn't spoken to Justin yet. I haven't had a reply to the email to Jamie yet so let's see what happens
37 views of Justin's thread and no response (other than 1 negative) so it looks like a distinct lack of enthusiasm for visiting the Matlock again!

It's going to be really difficult to run a game with the same site organisers on the same day and charge it out at £35 now.....

OK, spoke to Jamie tonight. He has been speaking to Justin (who apparently told Jamie they have 20 players booked for their game already - yeah, right!)

Jamie came up with a cunning (but stupidly poo) plan - CiA run a game at Bolton on Saturday and F&O run a game at Matlock on Sunday. Chaps can have a weekend of WW2.
Err, OK - the sites are an hour apart.
Oooh, no problem, I'll hire a coach! :slap:

Needless to say, I said politely it's a non-starter - we want to run a Sunday game anyway, chaps can't physically do two days and packing and driving to two sites is barmy.

Anyhoo, I said I'll convey the idea to you and canvas opinion - the answer is no isn't it!

But, he did say it would be really good to have a CiA two year anniversary game (heh, he has his commercial head screwed on) and he would really like to have us on board - and he could try and 'talk Justin round'. So, I'll speak to him again tomorrow and say it's all or nothing?

(He also said they are planning a WW2 game next year at Swinerton sp?, early summer - V2 based game with reenactors supplying vehicles  )

It's NO. In Bold. Size 72 font. Underlined.

**edit**

I know Swynnerton. Used to use it as a training area back when I was in the ACF (which is like, fucking aeons ago now) Good site - has a couple of bridges on it, plus the railway system (no longer used) and a fair few bunkers and buildings.

Like this:

NO!

Totally shite idea.

20 players? Are they having a fucking laugh? They only announced it three days ago!

But Swynnerton.....oooh. And nice and Midlands-y too. Who are they going through to get it?

LOL, I think Justin is bullshitting his boss about bookings and Jamie is believing him!

As a democracy it was only fair that I asked you the question, though in a sort of rhetorical way, as I had already said no

Swynnerton looks interesting, I knew nothing about it:
http://www.subbrit.org.uk/sb-sites/site ... ndex.shtml
http://www.subbrit.org.uk/sb-sites/site ... dex2.shtml
Jamie asked that it be kept hush-hush after the nonsense at Hurtgen making an anouncement for a game at an MoD site that was withdrawn days later...

Right, I'll get things moving then...

There's more to it that deserted buildings, it's still in use as a training facility.

Ah, maybe we will keep in touch with that with an eye on collaboration...

More pressingly, in anticipation of a quick resolution later on today and getting ready for a flying start with publicity (nothing like being prepared!):

I'll drop Jamie a PM to ask what's what..

While he was delighted CiA wanted to run the December game he wanted it at Matlock. I insisted we were only interested in Bolton.

Here is the thing - Justin runs the Matlock site and this will be his big game of the year, he was hoping for 65 players. Therefore if it's run at Bolton Justin will stand to lose to the other site £1625 + food and consumables. (theoretical of course, no way he will get 65 players). I daresay Justin is in earnest convo with Jamie about not losing the game. Justin has told Jamie lots have booked in already including a team - err, the Blaggers, all two of them. I'll have a word with Gaz on Sunday and tell him not to send deposits!

Just spoken to Bibby. We can have the site for £15 per player or £20 per player including lunch and tea/coffee (and possibly breakfast).

If we go for £30 per head, £25 for CiA card holders?

Sting in the tail - possibly. Looks like Justin is determined to go ahead with his game at Matlock. I'm guessing that Jamie doesn't want a bust up with Justin so that's fair enough and Bibby did say they will pass some money from our event to Justin to compensate. Having put the spoiler on those we spoke to at the game yesterday  I'm pretty sure Justin will end up with a DPM/Multicam WW2 game as we will surely get the players.

The site is easy to get to and I think Bibby said it was 165 acres - half old pine forest (unmanaged for 50 years) and half natural woodland. Bridge, streams.

Fantastic!

Phew! That could have been a bit crap, no game until 2009!!

Well, let's get the publicity out asap!

Bookings can open immediately if you like.

Paypal or cheque to usual places.

I'm not so sure about lunch. I prefer games that run all day and people get food as and when they can, or in the field. However as it's winter a break for getting warm and or dry might be a good idea.

I agree with all day thing esp. as it will be a short day. However, as you say, warm food cooked by someone else is welcome in winter. A topic for further thought and discussion then...

I'll just hold on public announcement as I just want to double-check with Jamie that the game will be on Sunday - I did say in earlier conversation with Jamie it had to be from our POV and I said so with Bibby. But it does seem bonkers Justin wants to press ahead with a errr head to head.
