Finally got my helmet from Military History Workshop.
It is very nice though with repro lining and chin strap as good as the Pegasus one.
It was slightly cheaper at £95 but note it is not the early war fibre rim type (which I did not want)
Here is a picture of it only slightly spoiled by me wearing it.

Looks good, i was reading about their stuff today and wondering what the finish was like.

Thought you already had an airborne lid john?

They do an excellent range of WWI stuff. I was recommended them as a place to get a liner for my brodie helmet.

Gadge

I had a Warren conversion of RAC helmet, which is basically just the addition of chin strap. I wanted a more realistic version for reenactment etc.
The Warren will be going up for sale at £40 +P&P it will include scrim but no net as I am reusing it on this helmet.

Yith You are right they do seem to have some good WW1 and earlier stuff. They were nice people to deal with and apologetic for losing my order and delaying delivery. They included a roll of WW11 scrim in the order to make up for delay.

Good call mate.

I'm trying to think who needs one in PBI now.

Well I need one. So if it's up for sale I'll buy it.

Unless Scaleyback is wanting to horde them

It is Size 7 1/2 and i can take it to Stonleigh or the Training day if you want to have a look before it is advertised elsewhere.

I forgot to reply to this, and then forgot that I hadn't. :slap:

I can not get to Stonleigh or the training day  , but 7 1/2 is my hat size. So I'll 'ave it (pretty nearly finishes the Para impression). I can ppal you for it, or give you a fistful of used oncers at Operation Lightning.

I'm currently in the process of moulding an airborne/rac/dr helmet, in order to knock them out in fibreglass. Much easier to drill in the right places to fit chinstraps! The mould will pick up the textured finish of the helmet and the finished results will be as strong as a steel helmet. Also trying to source some suitable green gelcoat, so I can give them a good finish instead of bare fibreglass. I reckon they'll cost no more than a tenner apiece to make, which is what I'll charge (it's not a profit making exercise but an attempt to provide a source of cheap but good quality kit!).

If possible it would probably pay you to make a mold of the earlier fibre rim one as it would cover all periods if people wanted to be 100% accurate for early scenarios :good:

If I could GET a fibre rimmed one, I could certainly do it!

Can someone on here not donate(temporarily) their Pegasus/Kiddle lid for you to make a mold of??

Good to see this idea has been resurrected Sgt Heide.

If you need one to borrow for a mould just ask, although ours are RAC ones which I think are a tiny bit different.

Edited for grammar - whoops.

Thanks for the offer B&A but I already have an RAC helmet. Just waiting for better weather, so I can start laying up some fibreglass and make a good mould.

Sorry this wasn't ready for the training day but I've made the first helmet from my mould. The green gelcoat I got is too light but a light sanding and a coat of a suitable paint will sort that out. I'm particularly happy with the way the mould has picked up the texture of my steel helmet. It's as strong as, if not stronger than a steel helmet and about the same weight. Suitably painted and with a net over it, noone will know the difference. For liners and chinstraps, much easier to drill than a steel one as well!

I'll bring it along to Lightning, so anyone who wants one can see one in the flesh first. I'll knock them out for £10 each, which is what it costs to make them (I'm not out to make a profit from these).
