Heide have you got any shells knocking about?!
Will have some made for the St.Lo game, both airborne and mk2's.

Nice 1 mate, I'll have 1 off you, you want paying up front?

No, it's ok to pay on the day.

Nice job Barrie, are you going to crop those bolts shorter or is there no danger of them whacking you in the side of the head if you fall?

"I think we are in rats' alley - Where the dead men lost their bones."
Yeah, for safety's sake get those bolts cut and padded

......3 No. M6 nuts and bolts plus washers = £ 1.00 (need to paint these brass and cut them to length).....
Yith and Gadge, yes you're right of course, those bolts are almost as dangerous as the spike in the crown of the real helmets, hence I will indeed be cutting them down.
No1_Sonuk, sorry, no idea of the spec of the original bolts but I'm assuming they're the same as the brass ones on the MKII, and I've guessed there would be a washer too. I may well be wrong on both counts though.
Sorry i missed that bit

Thanks. I might make my own.
What's the source of the net (not mentioned in Gadge's "PBI Recommended kit" thread)?
I got my helmet net from Sabre Sales - cost next to nothing, I got a bag full of bit's and pieces for less than a round in the pub
Yep Sabre Sales is your best bet. Just tell them what you want it for and they'll send you the right one, I think it's 1/4 inch.
Just ordered one of Sgt Heides shells. Does anyone know the correct colour paint? RAL code or similar.
I'm sure someone's put it on before but I'm damned if I can find it. Cheers

Finished my para helmet using one of Sgt Heide's shells. I decided to try and make a reasonable copy of a liner rather than use foam rubber inside. Took a bit of working out but it's turned out OK. I wore it the other Sunday at a walk on and it's pretty comfortable.
The liner band is a 25mm strip cut from 18 gauge ali sheet with 3 same width U shaped brackets (2 short ones and 1 long one for the 2 bolts at the back of the helmet). I then drilled 4 holes in the shell using photos for positioning ( the holes at the back are apparently 2 inches apart). The brackets were then glued and pop riveted to the helmet band opposite the bolt holes in the shell, and holes drilled in them to take the bolts.
The strapping is folded Ruflette 25mm natural cotton webbing with the ends glued round the helmet band and I glued a black close cell foam rubber crown pad inside the top of the helmet. I used some thin foam rubber round the inside of the band and covered it with leather.
To fit the liner the bolts went through the shell, through the holes in the leather helmet straps and through the holes in the brackets with the nuts doing up on the inside of the brackets. Very secure.
Costs: Helmet shell £10 plus postage, Helmet net from Sabre - £5, Hessian scrim - £5 and leather strap - £20 from SOF. The rest was stuff I had laying around. Great lookalike helmet for about £45. By the way, Sgt Heide, the shell was excellent, your mould took the detail really well.

Very nice! Thanks for the compliment but the real praise is all yours!

Pretty damn impressive!
Just about to embark on mine now ![]()
Does anybody know the difference between the leather chinstrap that SOF do, Warren, etc etc.
