We're looking at putting together some brit gear for our two recruits for Op Ariel.

It's got to be cheap and also come in small sizes.

So, would this pass muster? You can pick them up for £10 in a 32" chest.

I know the collar's wrong and buttons etc but it's not far off, but, is it brown or too green to match 49 pattern trousers?

Hi , Sabre Sales have got quite a lot of small size Canadian and Greek battledress, not sure about the price but he's usually the cheapest around,if you give them a ring they're pretty helpful.

If it's small sizes you are after the 49 patt size 13 (I think it was) can be picked up for a fiver. I have a spare one that can be borrowed if you like. It fits Gadge I seem to remember (in terms of going round the chest, arms are OK but prob short on the body) - with my 18yr old daughter it fits her fine but the sleeves are too long.

I also have a spare small 49 pat BD jacket, the same as Chommers.

We got them at the same time from a large trader at Stoneleigh in 2007 or 2006. I have a funny feeling it might have been Johnsons of Leeds... But I've never seen them in their shop!

Quite correct, it's Aussie BD from the '60s. I've seen jackets exactly the same as this at a surplus shop in Germany. Some wholesaler somewhere is trying to make his old stock more attractive.

Thanks for the replies and offers of loans. We have a couple of spare, size 13, 49 pattern jackets but I think they'll swamp them.

Here they are - note the grass, it's almost up to their knees lol!

That's why I was thinking of the "not-Ike Jacket" above, because it seems to come in very small sizes.

I don't actually mind that it's not an Ike Jacket either, seeing as we're pretending it's BD anyway, but does anyone know what the colour of these is like, is it brown like BD?

If not it's probably not a good move.

I saw a few of them (with trousers) at the KGB game a couple of years ago and they look okay if worn properly... i.e. with the proper webbing and some proper headgear.

Cheers, we have webbing for them and have found some small 49 pattern trousers so I think they're sorted, except for helmets which is the next step.
