A pic of my latest vanity project. Less of a skirmisher, more of a post-game-ponce-about outfit (and little tribute to the old man).

Apart from Dunkirk, the various battalions were either in Africa, the Far East or the Mediterranean but I don't fancy KD or JG as there isn't nearly enough scope for bling :D

I've found it almost impossible to find any reference pics so some of this is assumed from later/earlier uniforms.-- attachment is not available --

Looks very good, old chum.

Thought you were from Hun stock, though?

50/50 - The old man was 2nd B&H in Italy, Der alter Mann won an EK2 at the Somme and was Kreigsmarine during WWII

Yes - this is one of many assumptions. The photographs and "dioramas" at the Regimental museum (which was woefully lame) showed a Suez-era BD uniform with a black beret and had a single photograph of the 3rd (territorial) Battalion in the UK in 1939. They were also wearing dark berets.

I'm happy to be put right on any of this for the sake of authenticity, although to quote Sgt. Wilson "I think it rather suits me".

Hmmm. Its odd. Black Berets are normally associated with armoured units.

I did a bit of hunting about on Google and apart from finding that they were also chindits and became part of the Essex regiment in the 50s (making them of interest to me) the best thing I've found is this book:

Amazon had them for £125 plus a few days back (and for that money I'd want the author to come round and read me the story himself).

At that price I think I'll pick up a copy tho.

Right. The 1st were in Burma from 1941 (the museum had a Chindit uniform on a mannequin that looked like it had come from Grace Bros. )

"Cameras strictly prohibited" (presumably to conceal evidence of how crap it is).

And the chap at the desk and he wasn't having a bar of it.

Are you interested in the Chindits uniform? Luton is on the way to the mother-in-laws and I'll be going that way next week so I could drop by sneak a couple with the camera phone maybe.

Well I'm always interested to see stuff about the chindits... but don't put yourself out too much for me!
