I have just been sent from SOF a full green denim BD and was expecting it to be khaki. I understand troops adopted wearing denims due to the material but thought green was the colour canadians wore. I am doing a Rifle Brigade look with rifle buttons, shoulder title and black/green sgt stripes but dont want to attach them to this uniform if the colour is wrong, any info on this matter would be greatly appreciated and on Rifle Brigade Ww2 patches etc , cheers, Tony

Attaching insignia to denim BD is wrong anyway.

It should only ever have rank (if that) on it.

Denims were work wear not battledress, they were pushed into service as combat dress in some occasions, (some instances in Normandy in the very hot summer of 44, commandoes used it as it dried quicker for amphibious ops and when there were shortages of KD in the desert).

Original denims (and good repros) have removable buttons, this is so you can launder them a *lot* without getting excessive wear from the buttons, they were expected to get filthy as you would wear them for MT pool fatigues, kitchen duties, digging trenches etc *over* your BD.

So in short dont worry about it and dont stick any badges on it!

Denims started off brown and got greener as the war went on, its not 'wrong' to see a mix of the two, as said it was work overalls not parade dress. The brown varies from an orange brown to a beige (could be wash fading) in originals i've seen, equally the green goes from a reed green to a sage green. Dozens of companies made it using thread/cloth died in different factories... as with BD there is no real 'correct' colour, just an acceptable range.

I've never heard of Canadian denims being any different to UK ones but im happy to be proved wrong.

In short you've got perfect kit for airsoft so dont worry, just dont wreck it by badging it up... even BD for D-day and beyond in the field was *supposed* to be unbadged for security reasons (a 1943 'invasion order') but it was clearly often ignored as photos show.

I seen to recall rank on denims is also supposed to be put on on a brassard or armband or occasionally fastend on with press studs.

The rank on my KD and JG kit is on with press studs.. again because it was unit laundered very regularly as opposed to BD which was just brushed down (you had a filthy set you lived and fought in and a 'best' set on the unit transport in your small pack that in reality you never saw for months on endfor parades). The only guys who put insignia on Denims as a matter of course were the Home Guard as they used their Denims as a main uniform, partly for economy and partly as they were not expected to sleep in foxholes in february in the open in theirs ;)

Given your location I can only assume you're serving so I can only give you the analogy that while you might deck your 95s or your No2s with your brigade patch, rank, regimental flashes and qualification patches you'd be daft to sew them onto your noddy suit or your field smock as its pointless if you get me.

Yeah, as gadge said. The only Denims that I can think of that would have been fully badged-up would be those worn by the Home Guard.

Thanks for all your info. Would having the Rifle Brigade shoulder title along with the stripes on a brassard be ok then ?

No, just the rank really. The fact that the rank will be in black and green is probably a signifier enough.

IIRC whats far more common than a brassard is an armband held on by a safety pin, i could have that wrong there but I'm sure that is what was commonely done.

denims were spose to be big and baggy not fitted as they were overalls and i got sof ones just put a cap of bleach in the bath put around 5inches deep with water soak denims and scrub with a hard brush colour fades lots and the feel and look of them is much better and worn looking also re sew your brass buttons as you will lose them at the most inaproprate times
