Just to resurrect an old thread. I've finally got my Chindit impression sorted. It's in a useable state right now but still needs the odd thing to make it proper like.
Tuck the shirt in. I would ditch the E-tool. If you want to dig in, the jungle will make it impossible and you would have a shovel on a mule somewhere anyway.
Thanks for the pointers. Shirt will be tucked in and the e-tool has been removed. Also am now earing the small pack on my left hip with the water bottle on my back where the e-tool was.
Next thing to get is a machete.
Regards,
Ralph
Just noticed one thing from your pic on another thread with the cap badge. Your slouch hat currently looks Australian as it has the bash in the top running front to back. The British used a more circular bash.
Something like this.
To shape a slouch hat, I find the best way is to fill a sink with hot water, push the bash out and dip the top of the hat in the water until it is soaked. Then reshape the hat the way you want and ensure it dries that way. You may need to soak it and dry it a few times to get it exactly the way you want it. Alternatively shape it a little each time you wear it in the rain. Don't worry about getting it perfect as the more beaten up it looks the better. Due to the conditions in the jungle (hot and wet) being perfect for reshaping hats, both the Aussies and the British had a tendency to reshape their hats in non standard ways to match cowboy hats they had seen in films etc.
Thanks for the pointers Russel. I had to buy an Aussie hat in the end due to funds but I'll try and reshape it.

Ralph
