Hello all
recently discovered ww2 airsofting it and loving it so far. Quite fancy getting myself a brit loadout however as always short on funds. Looking at the British Army World War two (ww2,wwii) Officer's battle order uniform from replicators.com looks very good for the price
has anyone ordered it and can recommend it or not etc? or would you recommend the regular battle uniform or denison version above it on the site?
thanks
Rhys

Do you want to go re-enacting or airsofting in it.
I only ask cos a cheap way of doing an officers loadout is (and this is for airsoft not re-enacting) to use a 49 pattern bd blouse.
This is because officers blouses were tailored to be open with shirt and tie and *could* (thought rarely did) deviate a little from the standard pattern.
However officers were authorised to wear either.
1) standard ORs BD
2) ORs BD retailored
3) Tailored uniform.
Most regular officers would have had the latter coming from well to do families where a few dozen pounds on uniform is nothing. A later war territorial officer or emergency commison is as likely to have ORs clothing as tailored. Junior field officers purposely wore ORs kit to avoid being noiced by snipers.
So to be honest for your first set of BD get yourself some 37 pattern ORs you can do anything wiht that realy.
If you're doing UK airborne get some torusers and a smock first, you'll hardly *ever* wear the BD blosue its too hot, trust me. even in december i wore a shirt tie and denison and left the blouse in my pack!
Pic of the officers authorised 37 blouse.

I portray an emergency commision officer of the south staffords 2lt and use ORs battledress and boots and sometimes ors webbing.

"I think we are in rats' alley - Where the dead men lost their bones."
It will definetly just be for airsofting, no reinacting planned. It wasnt that I was planning to be an officer just that that uniform was cheaper heh.
Is it acceptable to wear the denison suit or is it better to wear the denison smock with the 37 pattern ORs? and do they roughly match colour wise?
thanks

If doing airborne you wear a 37 or 40 pattern BD underneath and a denison smock over the top. They're not supposed to match in colour. The BD is brown and the denison is camouflage.
If you want to save some money, get the brown Denims to wear under the denison rather than the BD. Its not 100% correct, but will look about the same.
See here for sample airborne loadouts to see what I mean...

the cheepest way to go is get a 50's/60's copy of the dennison and wear a pair of post war BD trousers.
However, I would say that to be honest mate, go for either of replicators uniforms and a dennison smock then get a maroon beret and webbing from sabre. If you have a bit extra get the Best Buy set with para trousers and a dennison. That is if you are airsofting.
If you are re-enacting speak to the uniform adviser (if you are part of one) or get the bits from Soldier of fortune, but that is exessive if you are just airsofting and going to the odd railway do in fancy dress.

thanks for the tips chaps its making sense to me now ![]()

wheres the cheapest place to get a pair of trousers to go with the smock? been looking around but on replicators the trousers are almost as much as the smock itself

yup.. and thats the cheapest you'll get 'em unless you are incredibly lucky on ebay or go for greek/canadian, which are greenish so most re-enactors are not interested.
or if you are a less portly gentleman you could probably get a pair of national service or colonial BD Trousers for about

thought there might be some post war bits floating about for less oh well
where might I find the colonial or national service trousers? just had a poke on ebay with no joy

Have you had a look what Warren has to offer?

They are around... but they tend be in small sizes and then they tend to be rare.
Most have been snaffled up already I'm afraid.
thanks chaps thats fantastic again

two other quicky questions
1. is there a decent modern substitute for the comforter cap? ie just a khaki coloured wool hat?(or is it green cant quite tell)
2. im running on a bit of a budget for putting this all together. will the

The modern woolen headover worn by 3 cmdo Bde will do, but you may have to sew up one end.
You can get away with modern No 2 dress trousers wich are eaven less, surplus and outdoor i think do them for

thanks mate those trousers will do for now i think.
and the wifes volenteered to knit me the hat lol. just need to find a rough aproximation of colour and how long it needs to be

Why bother knitting?

because it saves me

Yeah maybe... but surely its nicer to have something spot on?
I mean I'd consider making a repro if I had something to copy... but otherwise I'd buy a proper one for that price.
aye I understand what you're saying. Just a case of seeing how funds go. thanks for the help though
looking forward to it all very much ![]()
