Hello everybody. Great Forum over here. Thanx to Gadge for guiding me here.
Just received my first Pattern 08/37 large pack and was suprised that my small pack L-straps just fit on the upper braces, but there is no fixing for the straps on the Bottom like on it´s smaller brother... just some loops..but this doesn´t work
Are there different straps for the LP ? Or is there a miracle about the fixing of the straps to the LP I might have missed ?
Would appreciate your help and advises.

You need some utility straps. These are long thin straps with a buckle on the end.
The buckle is held in the loops on the bag and the L-straps attach to the buckle.
The other end of the utility strap is then passed over the front flap of th pack through the buckles at the top of the pack and squeezes the pack together.
Normally these utlility straps are crossed once on the back of the pack, but they could be left uncrossed or even crossed twice (in which case a tommy helmet can be held between them.
Maybe not the best pic, but you can see it done here:

Hello Yith and thanx for clearifying this for me
I was already asuming something like that. So I´ll have to get some utilty straps first...
Hmmm will have to check ebay tough as these are hard to find over here on the continent. Or do you have any advise were to get some not too expensive ?

Upsss Chindit. Sorry...seems I´m somewhat too aussi-focussed these days ![]()
Sorry to drag up an old thread but I didn't want to start a new one when there was one available, I've been informed by a... reasonably good source that Signals and some other units carried the pack using the utility straps in a backpack sort of set up. Can anyone confirm this?
Much obliged!
It's certainly possible to do that... I'm not sure whether anyone did though!
I too have heard this; probably for this forum at some time or another.
Can't justify it, as it's all just word of mouth to me, but does prove that it's either a truthful fact that's well documented or commented on, or a very well circulated faux pas! ![]()

Alright, if no-one's sure I won't bother, if it did happen it was probably personal choice anyway
Cheers!
