Ive recently bought an original MKII Helmet in good condition. However it needs paint work or it will rust. Thing is i dont really know what exact colour i need or the best way to go about doing it (I think Spray paint is best idea). I was hoping that someone on the forum wouldve painted a helmet before and could pass on any tips. Thank you

I didn't know what colour to paint mine either, but with research I found there was a whole range of colours for British equipment, not like the German and their specific RAL colours. I settled by looking up what colour was recommended on the Airfix British Infantry kit, the colour escapes me now but its a easy search and you can buy it in spray online.
Most importantly though, make sure you prepare the surface properly first. If it has the old thick paint that's patchy, remove it first. Then sand down with a fine sandpaper. Finish of course with a decent spray primer, then the paint. First time I restored one I didn't use a primer and it scratched off as soon as i put the helmet down so its well worth doing.
Of course this is just my way but it seems to give a decent enough finish.

Sounds like fun. Thanks for the help.

I found 'baking' the paint on helped too. Once sprayed and allowed to get touch dry, I put it in the oven on a very low heat for a couple of hours.
