Make a hole or slit. It may be best to sew it on a bit as well... sometimes

Position left side like this:

Though the exact position can vary.

loops of thread, like you do for medals on a german tunic?

DO YOU???

Ah, so THAT's what they are for :slap:

I just stabbed holes in my M43 but my M36 came with a thread loop. I was about to cut it off (whilst cursing the shoddy seamstress who left a loop of thread on my tunic)

Also, anyone care to explain what's going on here...?-- attachment is not available --

You really need to take the brasses off the belt and thread them through like a buckle, that way the tension of the belt keeps the little metal bar down.

Pigs to put on by all accounts.

I've never had to do that and I've had no problems with slippage either.

They are put on in a fairly weird way, but it's not tremendously difficult and certainly ends up with the being held on very firmly.

I can't think of a way to explain it. But you do have to push a big loop of belt through before passing the stick back in and then tightening back up.

Whats a reasonable price for an 37 pattern map case? I'm after one for the "Polish Connection" for Crich. I ordered a reproduction map of the Arnhem and surrounding area it's on the way.

I paid £12 for an economy 37 pattern one in mint condition. I'd not pay more than £20 for a 37 pattern one.

Blimey, I didn't think map cases were now pricey items
I've both types; full-backed and economy, both in fantastic/unissued condition, and paid £4 and £3 respectively.

The economy has an exposed back board with a plastic cover and a single webbing flap over the top. the early version like yours is completley webbed.

Anyone tried converting French battledress to British Austerity/1940 pattern?

I've seen a couple of jackets on Ebay, and apart from the open collar (which looks like it could be altered) they seem to be dead ringers for '40/Austerity pattern.

Yes cut is similar but the colour of material is nowhere close. Once you add in the time and dificulty of re tailoring a repro of the British jacket makes more sense. Far Eastern and Czech supplied ones are available for £45-90 as well as the Pegasus, WPG, MPP and SOF options.
