Anyone know what the correct WW2 headgear would be?

When and where? FS cap and MkII helmet, then GS cap and MKII helmet, poss. MKIII later in NW Europe.

aka Stigroadie

AFRA
better by design

What about berets? I've seen lots of RA veterans wearing black berets at remembrance parades. Would the FS cap be khaki or another colour? I'm looking for officer-centric soft headwear in particular

Officers tended to buy berets to replace the GS cap.

If the RA is attached to either 1st or 6th airborne they'd wear maroon berets as well.

you will see the old boys wearing black berets at rememberance parades, they are the modern ones that they are still entitled to wear. i imagine none of them kept there original GS or FS caps, and you know how hard it its to get them. easier and cheaper to pay £3.99 at the local surplus shop

And if they weren't attached to the Airborne it would likely be a khaki beret?

As said depends on the theatre, devision and date.

If you were part of the 14th army you'd have a slouch hat

Pre 43 SD cap I'd have thought and after that either a GS cap or a private purchase khaki beret.... but you really need to decide on the unit and date, as the RA are not deployed en masse but attached to divisions/corps etc it can vary.

Early on an FS cap could be the choice for low ranking officers as well.

Personally I think I now have all the above choices in my collection... ;)

Edit: oh... except a khaki beret, I must fill that gap pronto! ;)
