Those of the Allied persuasion at CR might be looking for something to sleep under. Floating around the Interwebbything, i've found something that might solve your problems. Cheap too!

gadge and i are going to build a tent out of two zletbahn any recommedations on improvements that we can make cheaply to remove fear of rain and mozzies

I'll be going with a zelt and poles if you want to expand on the 2 zelt bivi.

If you each have 2 zelts consider building an 8 zelt tent. There is more room and it will sleep 4 easily, 5 at a push. 8 zelts 8 poles 8 pegs [though if you use the centre rope loops you can pull the sides out with another 6 pegs]. 4 more poles and a rope lets you prop the door open. Peg it down with the door buttoned down, it will be easier to button it closed. As with all canvas tentage if it does get wet avoid touching the fabric. http://www.zeltbahn.com has pictures. try it, you'll not want to go back to 4.
As for the 16 section zelthaus...it's fantastic, luxury camping. We built one at Waltham Abbey from all original zelts, it looked great and was proof against the serious rain we had sunday night. None of the zelts had been treated, they work perfectly well without.

Am intrigued by the Scho-Ka-Kola - tin of chocolate with coffee / cola paste, can I try some at CR?

Should read

"I can highly recommend german deli. I dragged Snyper down there and have now got him hooked on Schokakola"

I'm seriously inclined to see if I can't get a batch through work. That should just about keep me going over the summer.

I was the only one to eat pukka German stuff at the Battle of the Bulge game. Crap! Never doing that again - rye bread was probably fine in the field as it is indestructible, but sadly inedible. The sausage had the taste and consistency of a squash ball. I went hungry that day...

The Scho-Ka-Kola is OK, somewhat bitter very hard chocolate - no doubt the caffeine will come in handy. I expect quite a few of us carry a tin in our tunics along with the period lighter!

Looks like you just made a bad choice on what you bought. There's quite a few different brands and types of rye bread. Some, even I wouldnt eat...

Remember that by this stage in the war, the Germans were issuing food stocks they'd captured/stolen from all across europe. Gives you a few more options!

My choice? My wife's choice! But not from a deli - Asda's finest.

But indeed, all of my rations for our posting in Holland will be liberated ones!
