ZIB shop have a couple of interesting items for sale:

http://www.zib-militaria.de/epages/61431412.sf/en_GB/?ObjectPath=/Shops/61431412/Products/205

http://www.zib-militaria.de/epages/61431412.sf/en_GB/?ObjectPath=/Shops/61431412/Products/203

Now, given that these are made of steel, they could be modified to let off pyro charges (though not actually firing stuff, unlike the mortars). £270 for the pair, and another 20 quids worth of bits and pieces and they would look rather nice when used in a game.

Possible scenario?

Take out a fuel dump/vehicle/static objective. Fire the 'zooka at it, and have one of us at the other end, with a nice charge rigged up. Would look *very* cool.

Food for thought, anyway......

Heh, thinks back to Eagles :( Where is that line rocket? :o

Was wondering whether the wireless controllers we use to remotely trigger flash guns and cameras might be adapted - no need for manual triggering of 'hit' then. Line-of-sight IR systems I've used in the past were never reliable, these wireless things are spot on (would have to be connected to a relay switch to trip detonation voltage). A regular thermobaric with electric trigger would be more than enough bang in the barrel with a nice smoke discharge.

Legally and H&S-wise, is there anything to stop us firing a thermobaric out of either of these? Or is the metal too thin?

IIRC, Paul and Tony showed us some remote triggers. I seem to remember they were very cheap from China, might be worth asking them about it.

Nice idea on the thermobarics. Its a "whoomp" rather than a "bang". They could also be shoved into the prop rockets that fit the tubes. Slot one into the tube, hook the wires up. Good to go.

I should admit that ive been thinking about this for a while, particularly how to deal with the backblast safely. Simple way to do it is that in addition to the regular trigger switch, you put another one in the system, at the back end of the tube where it can only be operated by the loader.

Loader pops a round in the tube and hooks the wires up. Checks to see all is clear, flips the safety. Tap the firer on the head, and he can hit the trigger. Safe enough?

Good call on the wireless firing system. Makes it a helluva lot easier to setup then.

**edit**

I'd rather cop a thermobaric on top the head from a mortar, than in the face from a bazooka!

Two issues, we have to make sure there's a double safety on the trigger and round so that the firer can't accidentally detonate it at the point the loader wires it up.

Second, when inserting the dummy round we have to ensure that it doesn't fly out of the tube as it's propelled by the thermobaric.

This will clearly require a LOT of testing.

In which case I suggest we also buy one of these:

Or these:

;)

(Or though I dare say Kermit can probably get his hands on both!)

Er, I have a crash test dummy head at home (leaving present from TRL aeons ago)

Dummy rocket is secured at the back of the tube by a clip, and could be secured at the front by a steel ring forced down the barrel and spot welded in place, so it aint going nowhere.

Steve, you're on the same wavelength as me on the safety side of things. The firer wont be able to do jack till the loader has armed the system from the switch at the rear of the tube.

Just so it's clear (and I see you both realised this) the thermobaric in the bazooka tube I was suggesting as an 'effect' only, not to project anything. The objective charge that is remotely triggered could be anything, as big as you like, as long as area access is restricted.

Good point on double safety HS - clearly it will have to be the man with the trigger that has the ultimate responsibility. Maybe the 'loader' has a key that he only hands to the 'firer' when all set to release. That way the loader knows that on key handover he must be clear of back blast. A physical handover of responsibility is not liable to misinterpretation than a tap on the helmet

Accidental forward projectile can easily be done but full or partial barrel obstruction.

That purpose built wireless pyro trigger looks great - useful anyway, quite apart from this project.

Loving the 'ALL' button.....

I'm not really happy about the potential for mis-fire from that with someone with sausage fingers....

Heh, you can join 16 of the boxes together too...

Seriously though, this company's boxes look good - I particularly like the continuity check. The small boxes give out only 6v but it's a sealed lead acid thing that is charged in-situ so should be trouble free as well as long life and plenty of juice. The 20 cue puts out 12v, a longer wireless range and a key lock system - good H&S!

I wonder whether you can lock the multiple burst buttons out.

The idea that you might accidentally hit 'All' sends a shiver down my spine.

Aye, it is programmable so would prob be possible - that 'All' button sits under the thumb when operating the other buttons!
