OK chaps Josh has said its fine if we Lt our own squad so assuming no one has any objections I'm happy to do it. if sonmeone else would like to nominate someone else thats fine too.
now lets talk tactics. anyone have suggestions? we're scupped to some extent as we cant use smokes or pyro on the beach
toms volunteered for 2ic unless theres any objections? in which case we could use a 2nd engineer if theres any volunteers?
Tactics wise i think we will have to rely on the airborne to attack the Germans from the rear as charging entrenched MG's usually does'nt work.
Rhys and I were talking about this. The general thought is given the size of the beach there will be gaps in the coverage. We should use the obstacles as cover, small groups with over lapping fire and try to flank them.
Failing that is anyone who is a good shot bringing an accurate rifle?
this is a pm sent to tom earlier with my general thoughts of the beach part. ideas/criticisms welcome
as far as im aware there will be obsticles so that will help. as for support gunners, currently none. webby was going to have his 50cal but hes pulled out. any chance of convincing warren to come with one? lol
my personal feeling on it is we angle for the far right or left flank. tactics normally dictate that they are the least well defended as they only have one side of attack to worry about. if we can get to the far right or left edge, then get up to the bunker line we can sweep down the whole defensive line and roll them up.
as for the mg42's... cant say im worried to much. 1km+ of beach. and only 3 of them(if they even put them all at the beach.) I fought against a team with 2 mg42's and several other support guns at a open day recently. they are so heavy and bulky we constantly out manouvered them and butchered them. so once we get a decent bit up the beach they shouldnt be a problem. and will act as more of a hinderence for them.
as for on the beach, move obsticle to obsticle. in very very small groups. 1's and 2's. something else I've learned the hard way, and read, is people always aim for the large groups of people heh
im guessing we'll be stuck there a bit as the brits take out the 88's. during that time we need to conserve ammo as best possible. keep their heads down but dont waste ammo. then once we have the go we need to blow anything in the way then charge the position in front of us.
Then its a case of clearing the whole defensive line. Once thats done I think we need to establish a "alamo". a central defensive position to fall back on and hold at all costs. I imagine Josh will dictate this being in overall command. Then from there(depending on time of day) we will assess whats going on and strike out from the beach
Is'nt the CP our alamo once we capture the beach, and what about the airborne are they going to try and break through to us or remain by themselves behind enemy lines ?
Good to see you are planning ahead.
Just three things to say - wire cutters, metal detectors and bangalores!

1. From what I've read the CP cant be attcked unless specifically ordered too so I would think the CP wont be our alamo. As its where people can change "roles", re-ammo, regen, etc.
2. Dont have any intel on the brits yet. I have asked Josh to pop in this forum to give us some more info but he hasnt picked up the PM yet. At best guess I would imagine their immediete job is to take and hold the 88's, or destroy the 88's and move on to other vital targets. So will probably be a case of us breaking through to them(like the real dday).

sneaky german bugger! get out of here! was it not enough you shot me in the arse at wotan? hopefully Josh will be providing the bangalores and metal detectors
Just to say we are not fighting along the whole 2 mile width of the beach , it will be cordoned to keep players within an area , otherwise you could just walk around the defences with impunity which would be gay . Expect 200-300 m ish . Enough to flank but not enough for Benny Hill type chase along the dunes.
Carry on Rhys , you're doing a sterling job !
was it not enough you shot me in the arse at wotan?
Gah! Not me a) I would have shot you in the head b) I went through 200 rnds in the day c) bet it was Syd - colossal number of TK'S
Anyhoo, carry on! And watch where you tread!
two of the times I got peppered in the arse I walked back to find you stood there alone peeping round a corner I was already half dead anyway but still to call "medic" then get hammered by your own sides just rude!
200-300m of beach? ah OK that makes things more challanging. nevermind will make that cigar on top of the beach all the more enjoyed.
Call it 500m wide max, depends on numbers on the day . Bearing in mind the range of guns is 40m max , you can see why .
You can't blame Chommers for shooting you , he's been playing German to long & it comes naturally .

I cant blame anyone for shooting me still when its your commanding officer its still rude
to be fair though it was very dark and it meant I respawned quicker as no medic was going to be able to reach me. doesnt mean I cant rib him for it though heh

OK further info for you all. Old 'Un has kindly given me a bit more info about the various stages of the event.
Due to the size of the site and the number of players etc. Everyone will be starting on the beach. Brits(brits troop plane came down in the channel and we rescued them) and Yanks. The beach head will be aprox 500m wide. And we will be assaulting it from.... Landing craft
Yes thats right landing craft!
Once the whistles blown we'll be out the craft and up the beach. the 88's are not just props, they fire! so expect to hear the sound of shelling on the beach soldiers. There will be numerous obsticles up the beach for us to shelter behind and then a fortified line to assault. Taking that line is our initial objective and it must be taken and held at all costs. From there we will advance inland to take further objectives amongst the bocage woodland.
Im not sure how much else I should reveal about where the game goes from there but for those brits disappointed that they wont be behind enemy lines fret not. the chance for a sneaky mission to take out the 88's later in the day is likely to come up.
With this in mind are you brits happy to roll into the current squad so we have one large CiA squad?
added the brits to the roster to choose if they'd like to come in with us or not
Damn, not many Brits are there? Or are there more on Gunmans list?
gunmans and our list were combined wernt they ?
as far as im aware they were combined
well no word from the british chaps as to whether they want to combine forces with us so for now we'll have to assume we're on our own. its only 2 weeks off so hope you're all ready
