i know the fps limits for smg's is 330. But i've got a thompson shooting at 350fps, would i be able to use it or would i have to get it down graded for the event? or would i be able to use it at a restrained distance to save money?

You could remove a coil or two from the main spring to get it down to 330 fps, this won't cost you anything, I think 2 full coils removed will get you under 330fps with 0.2g bbs, if you want to go back to 350 odd fps I think you shoud be able to find a new cyma spring for £4 odd inc p&p if you look about hard enough
