I am liking the look of that site! :)

Dave took more pictures than I did, including the bluffs. The light was too poor in the woods to get pictures of the boulders, which form a natural fortress along one side of the wood and will see some very tough fighting I think.

One thing I will say is that mortars will be fuck all use in such heavy woodland - unless you like pinballing rounds off of trees

That woodland reminds me of the old Firefight Scotland site (yup, 800 mile round trip for a days gaming - i must have been fucking insane) in that it was a complete bastard to fight through

Mortars will only be of use on the second day, fired from the bluffs by Jerry and up onto the bluffs by the septics. In the woods for day 1, it's next to impossible to even throw a grenade!

Brief game play outline.

Day 1
Germans in ambush and forward obs bunker at 'B'
US para at wood's edge near safezone.
US glider inf in open field meet up with paras and together progress up wooded area to the left of the road. Road out of bounds and right hand boundary to first day game.
Fighting in direction from B to D moving gently uphill all the way.

Terrain: some very dense and dark firs, criss-crossed with streams, wall, footpath, water run-off channels. Some parts to dense too get through but most is very playable, grenade chucking mostly pointless. Deep pine needle undulating forest floor with many big boulders and bowl scrapes.

Day 2
Direction of play C to G. Roadway is left hand boundary of play this time. Rising ground from stream at C, tree cover much more open with scattered clearings. Ground rapidly rises to E fighting through very steep rocky bluff - low risk of players falling off (unlike Husk'y cliff face). At E ground levels out to grassy plateau crossed by stone wall at F on tree line boundary. From F to G is flat dense firs, flanking possible left and right.

I sent a note to Doubletap offering a flat fee of £1300 all-in...

Hi mate.
I just realised I hadn't replied, how rude, sorry. Things have been a bit hectic lately. I'm sure we can arrange what you need with that figure, probably less. I'm planning some building work on the site in the next few weeks. Is there anything you would like to see in a certain position? as long as it's not colditz castle on the plateau we should be ok.
Regards
Andrew

Thoughts??

I can't think of anything that needs building, or adding to the site. It's perfect the way it is.

Latest from Doubletap - most important of which is a price reduction :happydance:

Hi mate.

We're all ready for your onslaught. I checked will farmer Dixon about using his field for camping and he's fine with it although he didn't mention a price. Knowing him that could mean he doesn't want anything or he's saving it as a surprise. I have another suggestion though, at the top end of our playing area theres an old track cut through the trees, the canopy has closed over it so it's dry and flat and out of the wind. This might be a good area for camping and it's right on the edge of the playing area. We can provide a couple of porta potties as well if you like.

Price wise, knock £200 off the original price to bring it down to £1100 and we'll be fine with that, unless farmer dixon gets greedy  We want to make it a good weekend for you and I'm willing to be flexible on the price and hopefully it might become a regular event for you all.

I'll take off our game listed for the Sunday so you can have the full site to yourselves but if it's ok with you I might get a work party up there to do some building, whatever we finish on Saturday you can use on Sunday. We could be local forestry workers in your scenario, not to be shot or taken prisoner though thanks.

We use biodegradable ammo at Rivock but as there's not many of you you can use whatever ammo you normally use. We can supply more if needed and we sell our bio ammo at £10 for 4000 .20g

As for camping... the field was certainly exposed to the elements, quite possibly gets very windy. However, it is next to the cars and close to the safezone so it will be very convenient. The under-tree place DT mentions will also mean players moving into the gaming area as well, which I'd rather avoid. Perhaps we can make a decision on the Friday?

Yep, easy enough to do on friday. It would be nice to get the tents out of sight, seeing as they'll be "unguarded" all day on saturday, yet fully visible to passers by.

By the way, I don't finish work until 1700hrs on the friday (I am trying to get it off), so, I won't be on site until after it's gone dark, unfortunately.

The camp field is next to the cars - much less faffing about if players don't have to hump kit right into the site and there is no reason to leave nickable kit in tents when it can be left in locked cars. As for being unguarded - the site is miles away from civilisation and in any case people will be about. If any of us are arriving after dark you won't want to trudge to a distant campsite and set up in the dark!

We need players to start the day at the safezone - is a no-brainer really, camp has to be close to cars and SZ.

I've got the afternoon booked off.

Pete, would it make sense for us to car share again? If not, then perhaps I could share with Dave and we could split the petrol.

The very earliest I will finish work is 1700hrs on the friday. If there are any incidents, or a late roll count, it could be a lot later! It takes me at least half an hour to get home, then, factor in loading the car, waiting for Stu, etc, you see where I'm coming from when I say I have no idea what time I could be there for. If it looks like it'll be stupidly late, I may as well save my energy and have an early start to drive up on saturday morning.
