This is a place to discuss Dutch Resistance and Civilian Matters..

We've had a bit of a brainwave and decided to let the dutch civilians choose their allegiances...

We've decided to keep this a secret from the axis and allied players at least for the time being.

We'd like to hear your thoughts on the matter...

If you decide this is a good idea. Then you have a question to ask yourself.

"Do you work for the Allies or the Axis forces, or are you just in this for yourself?"

Its up to you and I suggest you don't tell a soul!

BTW... all CiA staff can see this forum and post. However if you do decide to declare your allegiances then we have no problem with dealing with info as if we were not aware of it.

Note that we may have a SoE or similar member in here as well...

This so far just applies for the Arnhem game. But it would also work well for the 24 hour commando event.

Intriguing. So that would then pave the way for some dutch on dutch action... as it were :)

Im not entirely sure that would work in terms of people choosing their alliegance. As I understand it, if it were split 50/50 it would make the role of the dutch pretty much a small side of either side. I had in mind the dutch could play combatents or non-coms depending on whether a weapon is held and therefore would be used as runners or sabouters. I think with that going on it would be hard enough looking at what the Germans were upto and how they viewed you without throwing into the mix half of your side being internal saboteurs and confusing the matter even more. It would end up like a scene from Resevoir Dogs :D

Perhaps a pre-assigned fixed number of German colaborators would be a better option, making things more predictable. (say 1 or 2 out of 10)

I think I can see what you're getting at, but with it a bit "free for all" it has the potential to get very confusing very quickly.

Just my 2 pence.

I like the idea of increasing the role playing element for the resistance. Being able to choose who you are working for could make things alot more interesting, especially if you don't know who anyone else is working for.

I think however that digga may be right in saying things could become very confusing with no one trusting each other. Having pre-assigned collaborators may work better as long as their identity is kept secret. I would mean the resistance could work together better as a team but still never be completely certain of each others loyalties without degrading into total chaos.
Of course for the collaborators it would be alot more intersting too- having to gain information and get it to the germans without being arrested whilst at the same time keeping their loyalities hidden by aiding the allies. A very challenging but fun role. The collabortors would perhaps have to change each game however to keep things intersting and give everyone a go.

I was thinking about this some more. Maybe it would work if you gave people some motivation and let them decide on the day as things unfold.

For example. Give someone a hyperthetical family. Then slip the person some information at some point during the day that the Germans have taken hostage their family and will kill them if they dont colaborate. The decision would then be up to the player at that moment in time. (just an example, Im sure you can come up with better).

It has the potential to bog down play and may be tricky to organise but would make the situation far more realistic. Then the dutch players would be free from any ties at the begining of the game and could play to what ever suited them (or their character) best. I realise this is delving into the realms of Live Action Role Playing (or Furry Underpants and Rubber Swords as my mate liked to call them) but would add a new dimension.

Just a thought.

I guess a certain degree of LARP-ing would really benefit the Dutch Resistance. After all, being the "Butcher of Arnhem", I plan to act like a shopkeeper, flogging my anthrax-laden meats of evil to those who wish to buy some. :D

Just so long as it doesn't go too far and I have to say that my meat cleaver does "+2 to Knowledge of Meat, with a -2 to Strength/Fatigue after use" :P

We've had thoughts about the whole double-agent / traitor thing and decided to drop it due to possible complications and problems.

As a result all DRWs will work for the Allies! No change sides allowed!

Fair dos. It may have been fun but I agree the potential complications could be more hassle than their worth. Cheers for letting us mull it over tho :)
