Yup, cant see anything on the subject myself - and thats after checking a fair few places. I do have some more books on FJ on the way, so i'll have a look when they turn up.

There is a lot of disagreement on the matter, but most seem to agree that everyone wore yellow, with the only exception being Sanis (who sometimes, not always, wore blue).
The problem with photographic evidence is it is in black and white...and there is a photographic evidence to support both sides of the debate (yellow and black), and what further complicates the issue is that colors can change in B+W photos over time.
If I was you, I would just wear yellow and carry pionier specific equipment.
cheers guys there does seem to be a lack of evidence to say they were black will stay with yellow till i know any better

Its hard to find any concrete proof pics of that unit, the only ones i have show them dressed in *entirely* lufty gear.
The pics i have of the gran sasso raid show them in lufty tropical shirts with no ss markings.

So i think SS uniforms under the lufty smock is a myth unless you can find me pics to prove otherwise.

Well cant argue with that but i'll still stick by the fact that they definatley were not wearing them when they pulled mussolini out. I've got the pics of that in front of me.

Check that out as well.
Did the SS even have tropical uniforms?
And it wasnt 500/600 at Gran Sasso as far as I know.
Boys, get out your needles, you got some sewing to do.

Paul is a FJR nut, he knows the fallschirmjaeger inside out and heads up one of the best FJR re-enactment groups. Ok it's not like finding an original pioneer fleigerbluse but if Mr.Marsh thinks they wore black, backed up by veterans, then they probably did.
Mr.Binary, the SS did have tropical gear, just to confuse things it is closer to Luftwaffe style and colour than Heer. But, I think you are correct in that it was FJR7 troops who rescued Mussolini wasn't it?
