As above, you can just use most of your Heer kit. When I started FJ I just got a helmet, smock and a new belt buckle and wore British assault boots with my Heer trousers. The rest of the stuff was just normal army gear.
All the "proper" kit was acquired second hand over a period of years, far cheaper than new. Larry US selling all his kit at the moment. That seems to happen quite a lot.

OK that's good to know. For starters I'm thinking of getting the smock, helmet, buckle and boots with a view to getting the trousers and tunic later on.
Could I get away with a mouse grey undershirt in the mean time or would be better to wear my Heer tunic?
Regards,
Ralph
As long as you have a jump smock I think that it would look alright

I think a Heer tunic would be very obvious. You'll be fine with a shirt and the smock has huge pockets to put stuff in. The smock is a lot thicker than the SS/Heer camo smocks, so you get quite warm if you wear it with a wool jacket underneath.

OK. I've got an idea of what to get now. Are helmet covers a must?
Regards,
Ralph
Not a must at all but they give you options ,my helmet is painted in tropical yellow but the my cover is splinter B ,saves me painting it each time I change theater but if your helmet is the blue or grey then your fine for most European games and needs no cover until you want one.

That's a good idea and something that I'll probably copy. Feeling good about this kit.
Would I still wear the bread bag, entrenching tool, gas mask tin and zeltbahn? Also, which wass the most common smock type that was worn?
Regards,
Ralph
No gas mask tin ,the FJ had a gas mask bag worn on your chest ,great bit of kit for keeping BBs ,small gas can etc in and not expensive .I'm not sure what jump smock was most common ,probably the plain green step through smock but most of us use the Splinter B smock ,be a little careful because there are jump smocks in Splinter like a heer zelt and that's wrong ,Splinter B has a light brown background ,Splinter has a light grey background colour.

I take it this the incorrect camo pattern: http://www.sofmilitary.co.uk/3rd-pattern-jump-smock-splinter-camo-product,61

Yup that's the wrong type ,it looks like Heer Splinter not Splinter B .Richard underwood does the right ones for comparison but you might find them cheaper elsewhere ,his do come with the chest eagle sewn on already though .

OK I'll take a look at his site. Thanks for the pointer.
Edit: Looks like he's in stock and sells a matching helmet with cover too. Will snap those up asap.

I've ordered the splinter b smock and helmet cover from Richard Underwood. Also ordered boots, buckle, y straps, gas mask bag, gloves and trousers. Spent a bit more than I expected but I've been a very good boy this year

Ralph
Quick question. Were helmet covers common?
Regards,
Ralph
They are certainly common in the Airsoft community
I've never bothered with an FJ one, although I have sometimes used a helmet net. They are useful for changing impressions without repainting your helmet though.

Thanks Martin.
I was just wondering whether it'd be more correct to have one than not is all. Planning to wear fj kit at the Reichswald game.
I've ordered to fliegerbluse today from Richard Underwood and have got a bit confused with all the various badges. Should I be wearing the jump badge on my tunic? And just out of interest, would fallschirmjäger wear the standard german awards such as black wound badge or did the luftwaffe have its own system?
Still finding my way around the various German uniforms.
Regards,
Ralph
In 1945 I don't think there is any great harm wearing a helmet cover.
FJ jump badges go on the fliegerbluse, but given that the vast majority of late war FJ weren't jump qualified, I really don't know if they got them or not. FJ aren't really my speciality. It is a nice bit of bling which differentiates you from LW ground crew though.

Hi
By 1944 not All FJ troops had jump wings. Only those who had the qualification wore them. Bearing in mind post Crete in 1941 (operation Mercury) only a few small jump operations took place., one of course being Von De Heydte's I'll fated drop in the Ardennes offensive.
By 1944 the so called parachute armies were made up of luftwaffe ground personnel re assigned to combat duty based around a cadre of hardcore airborne troops.
As for awards FJ troops wore the same as Heer it's only specialist badges that were different.
Some late war FJ troops even wore standard combat helmets.
As for camo items they wore mainly splinter and the later tan and water. Jump smocks were still popular but so were the standard luftwaffe field division jackets.
Hope this helps
FJ were Luftwaffe, and as such would have Luftwaffe not Heer awards.
You've got nothing to ein, zwei, drei, vier
Currently putting together "tropical" Fallschirmjager kit and wondered if anybody had any opinions on the tan Luftwaffe trousers "Epic" are doing for £42?
Thanks.
I think that the colour is a bit off the trousers were a orangey gold colour than a light sand
