So I'm definately going this way 8) having just read elsewhere on here about Spearheads FJ trews being a "generous" fit, can someone tell me how generous a fit they are ? Obviously I'll have to get the smallest size and take them in, I'm trying to work out how much if I get them from Barry ;)

Also Splinter B or Olive ? Wheres the best place for knockensacks ? again will have to be adapted so if someone makes them ridiculously big would be good to know ;) had considered buying some zelts to make one  but think it will just be easier adjusting an off the peg job ;)

Boots, 8) does anyone have any recommendations on where/what type of ten eyelet boots to get :? I've read posts "elsewhere" pst mainly that british army ones are in their terms not good, but as emergency measures ok, could be handy for me if they're ok as they do cater for women with little feet

And last question, M37 lids ? best place for them is ? and I'm I right in the assumption my normal splintertarn lid cover is ok to put over the helmet ? or just go for chicken wire :?

Thanks in advance chaps, I've looked at loads of links but before I put my wish list to santa I want to make sure its correct ;)

Oh and below a few links for future reference for anyone else looking at FJ loadout, will add other stuff I've found if anyones interested

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BIUKLACr ... ed&search= not advocating this guy as being correct ;) but he does show you his kit (the uniform he has  not the erm other) so if nowt else useful for comparison

Also Splinter B or Olive ?

Splinter, mostly late war, green, early war or Vet holding onto his Ksack lol

Boots - Old UK Army Hi-legs(not assault), cheap and loads available. Decent Repro 1st or 2nd pattern FJ boots are £££ but I am very tempted myself

FJ Helmets - interesting topic, there is mention of getting a decent shell and then buying a good liner - both from ebay, I'm sure Kermit has the links to hand lol

splinter cover is worthwhile - if the lid itself is 'poor' lol nice cover up. Can get green cover for 'early war' impression as well.

Chicken wire or custom paint - looks fantastic, on a good shell.

probably best to ask kermit, if he's not online PM me and I'll try and help out

No hurry santa's not on his way back from london yet   and am still reading, looking at links, going through my books, looking at pictures

Thanks for the info though :D and I've already got a cover 8) don't think anywhere will do repro boots in my size :( can't even get jack boots for me

Some of the lads at Levisham had custom painted lids and your right they do look blooming good

OK, now i've finally got rid of the hangover (tip, NEVER go out on the piss with someone nicknamed "the cider monster") so here goes.

Lids - M37 is rare as rocking horse shit. They were cut down M35's jerry rigged with a 4 point harness. Won't find a repro anywhere, so its an M38 you're after. For the shells, Hong Kong Keiths are pretty good. Liner, however, is crap. Sits far too high. I'm STILL searching for liners i'm happy with. When i find some, i'll let people know!

Smocks, you WANT one thats pretty big. When they jumped, they'd put the smock over the belt order they were wearing. The way i've found best (with sperheads stuff) is to order a size larger than the tunic you're wearing. (S tunic, order an M jumpsmock) If in doubt, baggy fit is definitely better than a tight fit! Barry at Speaheads have the right pattern, but the wrong material (shouldn't be HBT, buy hey, who gives a shit - this is airsoft, right? - and its not beyond the realm of the possible that HBT jumpsmocks were manufactured somewhere) Go for a type 3. The type 1 and type 2 have stitched in "legs" and are a git to put on and take off. Go for a type 3 with the "legs" held together by poppers. Camo is "Splinter B", which is different from the "Splinter A" used on Heer camo smocks and Zeltbahns.

Boots. You have two choices. High leg on their own, or low boots with gaiters (commonly seen on late-war FJ's). For high legs, the first generation Brit BCH (Boots, Combat, High) are a decent enough approximation) For low boots, search around for something thats preferably rough-side out, but no toecaps.

Jump trousers. If you cant get any small ones from Barry at Spearhead, try Pirschen over at reenactment-box.com

Er, i've probably missed something. But my brain is still suffering alcohol overload today

OK boots as I though :D

Knockensack ... a size bigger is erm tricky cos the small size is going to be a humongous thing on me, Normally a 36" erm top, the smallest they do is 48" so I've no choice but to go bigger ;) and can then take it in to the right size (least I'll have fabric to play with  I was more wondering if Barry says 48" if it is ;) I've seen comments of people getting stuff and it being bigger than the size indicated ie if I ordered a small how big is that going to be on me, don't think I explaining it well at all  was more wanting peoples opinions on the quality rather than sizing issues as obviously eitherway its going to need to be taken in

Trousers is the same as the knocken sack sizewise if I get a small I'm assuming 32" still too big for me but managable if an accurate 32" and not a man (over exaggerated measurement)

Thanks Kermit :D

shame you can't get jackboots in your size - you could have worn them for either your Heer or late war FJ impression.

I bought a pair of LW M35 Trousers as well as the FJ's to do a late war impression - early green - step in ksack,m35's, jack's and M43 cap

I need to get the green ksack 'weathered' it looks way to new lol oh and a nice pair of jacks

If u manage to get a ksack to fit, you may not need to get a FB tunic, as you'll be able to wear anything underneath the ksack and still look authentic - just needs to be buttoned up.

I'm glad I only wore my FB on saturday night - otherwise would have been way to hot running around @ Wotan

Hi Helga
If your working on a budget for your helmet go with HK Kieth. Much better quailty than Barry's. Also Kieths Jump smocks are supposed to the best out of the two. Some of the re-enactment groups even rate Kieths as the best available.

Field grey items like your jump trousers I'd go with Lyndon as his wool seems to be better. Things might have changed as I haven't had any of kieths for a while and of course you save on postage if you get everything from the same supplier.

Let me know how much you'll have to spend on the jump trousers when your thinking of getting them in and I'll let you know if I can come anywhere close with my German made ones.

Also I can get you some nice post war German police Y straps. Same as FJ straps except they are fractionally wider, or narrower....I can never remember. Nice and cheap. Plus if you want to look a little flash out in the field FJ K98 ammo bandolier in Splinter.

Boots, like the guys said, Brittish high lace ups should do you very nicely and save you a fortune on FJ ones.

To follow on from Dog Green's post. FJ bandoleers, if you remove the stitching between two of the compartments, will happily take a VSR 10 or Tanaka K98 mag.

Now, for the pointless info bit :) if you do that, you can carry 10 of the mags. 10 tanaka K98k mags is 100 rounds. Exactly the same as capacity as when the bandoleers are used for 7.92mm stripper clips :)

Yeah, i said it was pointless info lol

Thanks Chris :D I'll be in touch about stuff when its needed (ie when I start buying

I've used Keith before, I got my M44 trousers and Jacket from him and I can't knock it at all, infact theres something else I want from him but thats a different issue all together  so I've no quarms using him again, his service was fantastic, and as I said at Levisham I'll put up with being called sir

Trews am still checking them to see which ones I like (ie which ones are most alike) and then have have to get some badges, chip bag and oh its endless isn't it  whose idea was this hobby
