I have a type 3 from Spearhead. More than good enough for the twice I have worn it in 3 years.
The Spearhead green step in is thought to be quite good too.

@ Poacher / Steiner someone who knows better than me
1941......would they be wearing long or short, type 2 or 3, and are we looking at Splinter pattern rather than anything else ?
my knowledge of FJ sadly lacking
Well, I can only say from the photos in "Fallschirmjäger in Crete", which showed a mixture of green and splinter smocks.
You've got nothing to ein, zwei, drei, vier
I cheated and asked Tom Gow, very well informed on these matters.
Here is what he has to say;
May 1941
Type II M40 Step in smock either in green or splinter B
I got him to give us a rough time line for each smock and it's introduction. Obviously the old types would overlap with the new.
1936- Type I M36 double zipper smock.
1938- Type II M38 Green Step in smock ( no pockets , zips were added by some of the units that landed at Eben, rest of the invasion and Norway operation were standard M38.
1940/41- Type II M40 Smock- Green late 1940 then introduction of Splinter B in early 41 with the creation of splinter B and in time for Kreta.
1943- Type III Open front smock-
What a nice man?
Thanks go out to Tom.

And a direct link to Spearhead's Mk2 SplinterB: Clicketyclick!
That's the same one I've got. I can take some pics if you want. And make sure, if you buy from SH, to buy one large enough.
I am 1.80mtr and ~78kg and not a that big belly and I've got a Large one to go over my FSJ uniform.
cheers for that I foubd Spearhaed on Ebay probs will give Mr Underwood some business though if they are the same, as I inevitably get sizes wrong and easier to return it to him ( lost count of the number of hats and heltmets bought in the wrong size )
Yay, Old 'Un joining the ranks of the FJ!
