I've bought myself a nice splinter b helmet cover but I'm struggling to get the thing on. The helmet is from epic militaria, the cover is from luftwaffe supplies and I'm just wondering whether the cover is too small or the helmet is too big. Both were listed as size 59cm so should fit.

Are there any known problems with epics' helmet sizes at all? I'm just wondering which one to return.

Regards,

Ralph

My splinter cover from Epic was a bugger to get on, but I managed it eventually - I think that they are meant to be pretty tight to be honest.

They are indeed a total bugger. It took me 3 people...... 6 hands and a lot of fighting and swearing to get mine on.....

Current Arsenal: ICS Grease Gun, ICS M1 Garand, MP40, Viva Arms Sten Mk2.

Bugger. I will have to draft the wife and kids in on this one.

EDIT: Attempted with help of family but still not on. Will try wetting it and see how it goes.

P. S. There was some swearing

Ralph

After much struggling and swearing I still haven't got it on. It seems like the helmet is too tall to me. Where did everyone else get their helmets from?

Ralph

i have the same issue with epics FJ helmet i bought one to do up as a DD one but my green cover dosent fit this one - the shell looks higher and slightly odd compared to my other one i would suggest the helmet is wrong and i'd probably of returned mine if i hadn't stained the liner and re painted before noticing...i'm going to put a helmet net over mine as it will hide the odd look the helmet has and its bound to fit! :slap:

Quick look on panther store and i can only find this FJ helmet cover http://www.panther-store.cz/en/catalog/ ... a-splinter its hard to tell but it looks like a draw string type cover which is wrong for FJ covers - i'll be going to richard underwoods stand at stoneleigh on the 31st and taking my helmet along to try on on http://www.richardaunderwood.com/catego ... gear/camo/

what helmet is it? i bought a FJ 60/61 helmet from epic and my green cover doesn't fit it but it does fit my other FJ helmet... i'm hoping i can find a cover for it at stoneleigh

It's an epic militaria 58-59cm m38 helmet. I've ordered another helmet cover with hooks to see if that fits a bit better.

Regards,

Ralph

I'm glad I'm not the only one to doubt epic's m38 helmet, from the pictures it looks like SOF sell the same one too. I've actually already ordered a helmet cover and helmet from Richard Underwood but he said he's waiting for the covers to come in and he wasn't happy with the quality of the helmets so is sending them back.

In the mean time I've ordered a cover from SOF and epic with the plan to stain them so they at least look the part until my order from Richard Underwood arrives. I would wait but I've got a Skirmish game on sunday and really want to look as good as I can.

Maybe I should juts smear it in mud

Ralph

Not sure how yours sits on your head but mine sat to high so i drilled 4 new holes about 1cm down on the liner and the screwed it back into the shell, it now sits a lot lower on the head. i also misted halfords green from their camo range over as it's a little to grey for my taste and the liner was stained with wood stain - just needs decals at the weekend and a net and it should be okay but i think there are better FJ helmet shells out there :good:-- attachment is not available ---- attachment is not available ---- attachment is not available --

Mine sits quite high too. I was going to play with the liner but I'll just wait till Richard Underwood is back in stock. Unless anyone can recommend a good fj helmet that can deliver by Sunday.

EDIT: Found this website that sells m38 helmets. Anyone know if they're any good? http://www.militariaonline.com/ww2-germ ... 77_66.html

I think I'll give them a go. I did want a desert helmet anyway for afrika korps and I can just put the cover on for European games.

It was a big problem a few years back that most of the repro helmets fit and looked wrong, sort of looked like you were wearing a bowler hat perched on top of your head, reason being(at least back then and to be honest havent checked the latest repros)is that the liners were fitted wrongly in that when you looked at the alum bind of the liner it was almost flush with the rim of the helmet shell with no gap inbetween,if that makes any sense and yes,a lot of the shells seem too tall in the crown as well.

It definitely seems to be a problem with the liner. I wish I'd picked up on it earlier and gone somewhere else for my m38.

I ordered a new one from militariaonline.com but haven't got anything about shipping yet. Gutted as I was really hoping it would arrive before Sunday as it looks like I'm going to have to wear the dodgy looking epic helmet. I'm sure it'll look OK once I've got the rest of the kit on but it just bugs me.

Regards,

Ralph
