Looking to swap from SS to FJ; seemingly simple question -
Would FJ have worn Italian camo trousers ............... I'm sure I've read somewhere that some units did, but can't now find the reference, so help/advice appreciated ![]()

The remaining elements of the Italian paracadutisti Folgore and Nembo divisions were incorporated into the newly formed 4.Fallschirmjäger-Division in late 43 early 44 so you might expect to see some Italian camo in use by the german FJ's of 4th FJD.
I have seen a photo of a FJ with a field made helmet cover in italian camo but not seen any trousers. Its certainly a possiblity though.
“I wanted to come to the Volga at a specific location at a specific city. By chance it carries the name of Stalin himself. So don’t think I marched there for this reason – it could carry another name – but because there is a very important goal... this goal I wanted to take – and you know – we are very modest, we have it already."

"Comrades, Red Army men, commanders and political workers, men and women guerrillas! It is on your perseverance, staunchness, fighting skill and readiness to discharge your duty to the country that the defeat of the German-fascist army and the liberation of the Soviet land from the Hitlerite invaders depend! We can and must clear the Soviet land of Hitlerite vermin."

Have now re-found a few written references to FJ using Italian Camo items, particulary with regard to Monte Casino
However, still struggling to find any pics - any links anyone ?

That's useful, thanks
I'm currently weighing up whether just to ditch the Axis impression altogether or swap over to FJ.
If I can carry on using the Italian trews* then all that I'll need to change would be smock, helmet cover and collar tabs ![]()
*Trews were made by a reenactor from a period Italian Zelt, so they are wind/water proof, don't suffer the sponge effect of wool trousers ........ and look pukka
so I'd like to carry on using them if possible ....

Well, there is evidence that Italian cammo was used. Whether or not Italian cammo trousers were ever worn historically should not stop you doing so. Although it is always good to be as accurate as possible; for most of us budget is a great factor. (a lot of us wear British Army boots combat high)

Dont count on it.
The guy in the Italian trousers is also wearing a Splinter A smock. Wrong.
I cant find any Italian camo in the second link.

Tru dat.
Mixing camo is fine but you might want to consider a few things...
1. Versatility. Italian camo is OK for a Med themed event but if for an Eastern Front or Normandy game then it's going to look out of place. If you want to start a collection then fine but if you want a single pair of FJ trousers that will work for all scenarios you're better off with boring old feldgrau wool.
2. Choose your vendor carefully. The debate on which Eyetie camo is best goes on forever and is very boring. However if you don't want to end up with a nosebleed-inducing pair of trews then it's something you need to do your due diligence on before you shell out for a pair.
3. Realism is not the same thing as accuracy. Take a look at the pics in you link where they're all lying on the ground - 6 guys, 1 item of Italian camo between them. That's realistic IMO. If you're that one guy then fine, but if all 6 buy a pair to save on shipping then it ceases to become realistic when you're out in the field.
4. Limit the exotic. Try to avoid impressions where everything is rare or unusual. An FJ wearing Italian trousers with a tan & water smock, a dot44 helmet cover, Knights Cross with Oakleaves and toting an FG 42 will probably get you some odd looks.
It's all fun & games
There is a picture on one of the Belgium FJ re-enactors sites of a guy in Italian camo and splinter smock. I've tried to find the link but not found it yet, I know it's there as I used it for reference for my set up. At the moment my smock is in splinter A type, but as I only use mine to play airsoft and not reenact, I can live with that. Until I have funds for an Underwoods version. If you can afford a few different set ups etc, get the best you can. If not get what you like the look of, just because there's not pictures of it don't mean it never happened. If I find the link I'll post it up.

It dont mean it did happen either. ![]()
The only way to try and prove it did happen is with some evidence.

There is more to collecting evidence than the photographic record though. To rely on only one source is weak.
It is well documented that all humans evacuate their bodies from time to time. Period medical reports will support this. Records of people who do not go with regularity show they are considered ill and in need of treatment. It is a fine line, those who go very often are also considered ill. Once or twice a day would seem to be a regular number of visits.
Do you also avoid sex? I have never seen a photo of Fjr 'on the job' but there are written accounts and plenty of Germans about to suggest they did engage.

But, if they all wear historical correct stuff is not known to me.

Yes I do avoid sex when I'm playing airsoft as I like women and most of the time it's only men at games, but if thats your preference good luck to you
, the few women I have seen at games are normally with a partner.
Thanks Arthur that was the site I was thinking about, I had beer fingers last night and couldn't find it. I understand were your coming from but for me historical or not it does look good so I that was my aim with my loadout. After all it's only a game.

That may suggest they are not abstaining from sex at events?
From what you say the only thing preventing you is the lack of available females, not the lack of historic photos?

No I abstain due to the fact I have a very lovely wife and going away to play airsoft for a weekend gives me time to recharge my batteries that she likes to frequently drain. ![]()

I'm sorry, you were not clear in you first 'sex' posting. It helps if you can be clear and erudite in what you post, especially when you are trying to make a point.

No mention of a wife, only that you prefer women and that is why you avoid sex at airsoft games. ![]()
You can see how the confusion can arise?
