Hi,
There is a copy of the Red Army in Colour Photos book in the Oxfam Book store in Nottingham on Market Street. It's 20 quid and I didn't feel like splashing out that much on something of mild interest to myself, but I know tehre are a few Nottingham/Derby based folks on the forums here so someone may be interested.

Bozhe Moi! It's a good starter for ten but not worth that....unless you want to offer me that price for my copy, of course.
This is a good book if you can track down a copy http://www.aviapress.com/viewonekit.htm?OTH-216 I seem to remember someone having it in electronic format a while back.
Or try this site http://www.rkka.ru/iuniform.htm
The one I plumped for was this one.

I saw one of his earlier ones on the VOV and it wasn't very good, frankly.
Lots of post war stuff in the photos.
Well I'd not judge this one by that one... take a look and at this one see what you think. Also read it, don't just look at the photos. There's quite a few original photos in there.

Straight away on the cover the guy holding the DT mag looks to be wearing 1950s two sided pogoni. Wartime subdued ones are green piped magenta/raspberry red while service dress ones are magenta piped black. The 50s ones are magenta one side and green on the other with no piping - the idea was you reversed them is you were in combat or on parade.
You're right that I can't comment on the whole book, there does seem to be a fair bit of original kit in the excerpt, but the devil is in the detail and that cover photo coupled with the errors I know are in his earlier book* doesn't inspire confidence.
I didn't mean to start a Red Army book war ! I wasn't sure how in print it was, so it could have been a good deal. I guess all you Russian guys are used to long queues and having the State dispense wisdom, rather than paying above market rates for it in a "free" economy. Oh well...

The advantages of a centrally planned economy, Comrade.
In all seriousness there's an amazing amount of shite out there in Red Army research. It really is 'a field where anyone can make hay'. Having said that you never discount anything until it's been tested against other sources because it's not all laid out on a plate and you have to hunt the information and kit out. Which is part of the attraction...
