Cleaning a German waterbottle

Hmm...
What I do when I get a 'new' canteen (aluminum or stainless):

- Drop in a couple of ballbearings or gravel/stones
- Shake until arms hurt
- Rinse out all the dirt & BBs & stones
- Pour in some chlorine-based cleaner; glorix (I've heard of people using bleach instead)
- Filll to the top with boiling water
- leave it for a few hours (or overnight)
- Rinse a few times
- Refill with boiling water and let cool
- Rinse (be sure the chlorine smell is more or less gone)

Whatever deadly germs or goo was in there will now either be neutralized or there forever. (Yes it should be safe to drink from it now)

After use, rinse, let dry and store with the cap off.
Sometimes if I haven't used it for a long while I usually give it the boiling water treatment again.

I have never seen anything as dirty as this inside, my US one is stainless & spot on but this German one is filthy, will try both of the above methods, if it stil looks dirty I will use it just for bbs

Sterident tablets - what they use for cleaning false teeth.
Works very well and ends up minty fresh.

Fill bottle with 2 or 3 tablets, top up with water and leave over night.

milton -get it from any chemists, used for cleaning babies feeding bottles and suchlike, safest thing to use too as you can drink it (not much though!) use this as a follow up to the ball bearing treatment.

I concur though brand own steri tablets for baby confanglements are equally as good just make sure you explain why you've bought them before you take them home if you don't have a baby to the other half
