Anyone heard about the trip to St Petersburg in Russia Jan 2008, its a reenactment battle on an original site, in the snow occupying origianal trench/bunker positions, there's a bunch of Freiwilliger from the UK, Sweden and Finland meeting up to take on the red hoards. Mad as I obvieously am, I'm in the process of booking a place for myself and I'm twisting Frontschwein's arm off to make him come too. The cost is £175 for the trip flying from Stanstead to Helsinki, with a couple of days in Finland with guided battlefield tours and a trip to the war museum, then off the Russia for the same mix of guided tours and a reenactment battle, there's also a via charge of £35, but weapons and blank ammo are thrown in for free. Also add to that the cost of some padded trousers and mittens to go with my padded jacket, or the prospect of an arse freeze of the eastern front. Any takers, I'd be glad of the company.
I know all about it, heard several times at Victory about it and why I should go
, have you looked at the photos from last year Chris so you know what to expect (snow, cold, fecking awesome). I'd love to go its just NOT fair
the reports I've heard from last years from those that went is unbelievable, it is a very very rare occasion to do such a thing and a great priveledge to be allowed to do it. Jammy jammy git
You'll have a hoot with Unci Neil and the lads, just watch they don't think your a female reporter after recent events

Thanks for the warning, I'll put plenty of vodka in my canteen for this one!
That sound absolutely magic. I take it you have to organise your own accomodation at that price?
Who is this open to?

Sounds great!
If its passed 9 there is a 95% chance im pissed.
Here's what I know so far folks. its is all wrapped up in a PM I sent to Steiner earlier today. Kav if you're really interested PM me, I've got a full set of German kit you can loan from me, but you'll need a padded suit and mittens, as I've just heard its below -30 not -20.
Andy,
Here's what I know about this trip so far, and I'd love you to come 'cos we'd have a top laugh. Its being organised by a Russian re-enactment group from the St Petersburg area. The plan is to fly out from Stansted airport bound for Helsinki, spend a couple of days in Finland linking up with some reeactors from ss Nordland who are mainly Swedes and Finns. In Finland, there's a guided tour of some of their ww2 Soviet/Finn batllefields followed by a trip to their version of the imperial war museum, as far as I know we are being put up by the Finns. After that there's the trip to St Petereburg formerly Lenningrad, this time its to do a battle re-enactment on an original battlefield site in presurved trenches and bunkers from the period, there will be at least one tank present on the Soviet side and some very impressive explosive effects taking place, the Russians are throwing in all the weapon hire and the blank ammo for free.
The costs are £175 for the return flight to Helsinki, plus a further £35 for a visa to cross the Russian border.
As far as kit is concerned just bring your standard uniform for underneath, you'll need your helmet and your web equipt' and if you really are seriously interested, and like I said I'd love you to come, you'll need a padded winter suit, here's a link to one at Spearhead for around £50. Persoanlly, I've got the jacket already and I've ordered the trousers and mits, beacause it can get well below -20 at that time of year

I really think this is a once in a lifetime chance to do this, so I'm going, what the hell! I've always been interested in the eastern front and this is probably the only chance I'll ever get to really experiance what it was like and have a laugh with a bunch of like minded loonies, I seriously hope you decide to come on this one and help form an ad hoc Kampfgruppe of western europeans fighting against the red hoards.
Regards
Chris
PS Bring plenty of Schnapps!
like minded loonies sounds about right
you'll have to get yourself to Le Visham, ie Levisham at the NYMR 40s event to meet some of the lads going Chris ![]()

I may well be up for this too. It's 2 days after I finish nights and I have a couple of weeks leave coming straight after, so I have the time for certain. I just need to persuade the wife it's a good idea!
What sort of "extra" costs are there? Such as accomodation, connections, excursions, etc?

When I want your opinion - I'll tell you what it is!
on nights at the mo Pete, pm you in a couple of days, in the mean time, I find it sometimes, but not always works if you buy your wife something nice, before you ask with a stupid smile on your face "Darling, do you mind if I go to Russia for the weekend with my airsoft mates?"
Hong Kong Keith is selling maus grau reversible parkas - he says they're Heer - is that correct?
Reversible trousers are proving more difficult to find, although Barry Lyndon says he'll have some splinter ones by November.

You've got nothing to ein, zwei, drei, vier
Can't go to this one sadly as will be organising 80th birthday celebrations for the other old 'un....
I do have a Sturm splinter parka in XL that I'd be happy to lend to anyone going on a break it mend it basis. Could arrange a drop of at F&O's December game .
Yes please, Guy.

You've got nothing to ein, zwei, drei, vier
You're on Andy . Try it for size at Wotan .
Cheers.
