I'm putting together a front line nco uniform, just curious what the most common type of tresse would have been, looking at either the traditional silver or subdued.

i guess it depends what period you're going for... although subdued tresse was introduced a lot earlier than most people think...WA forum gives a date of April 1940 fo the introduction of subdued tresse. Of course silver would have continued in use on old and new tunics right through the war

Period wise is post 'Barbarossa' as i have a eastern front ribbon for the tunic which is a m40, so prob looking at late 41 onwards.

Dont know its that any more help for which may be more appropriate.
