I'm happy to do some training lessons for you if you want Andy.
Just let me know if its any help. I have a rough idea of the differences in german small unit tactics and stuff like fieldcraft is universal.
All I ask is someone helps me get to matlock from nottingham.

Gadge, thanks very much - great idea. If you could cover the following, that would be great:
1. Range estimation, and knowing your own weapon's effective range - perhaps targets at different ranges / heights
2. Camo and basic fieldcraft
3. Patrolling
4. Engaging with the enemy. (As briefly outlined in my PM to the Hohenstaufen boys.)
Will see you at Lightning for further chat.

Yep can do all that for you easily.

I'm interested in the training aspect of the event.
1 range estimation, is there specific Axis instructions or is this just firing at fixed targets at different ranges.
2 Camo and Fieldcraft, is this different from modern "Shape, sihouette, shine and sound" tactics of modern day airsoft or were there different period specific instructions?
3 patrolling, is that the same as modern Extended line, spearhead and diamond formations? or were there period specific instructions. I'm interested just to see how much of modern tactics are based on tactics that were used 70 years ago.
4 engaging the enemy? Fight through the ambush or pairs fire and manouver and all that jazz.
Is there a website referencing all this kind of info?
Thanks in advance for any advice

1. Range estimation - it was something I found very useful. Estimating target distance, and knowing how far your weapon will shoot, so as not to give your position away needlessly by firing too early.
2. Yes basically the same
3. Whilst they used different formations, the standard patrolling formation was indian file, because it was easiest to maintain contact with the squad, and presents the smallest target from head on.
4. Quite different really. The MG played a pivotal role, and everything else moved around it. For an attack, the squad leader would pick up to half the men and move in, whilst the other half would lay down suppressing fire.
I'm sure there was a lot more to it than that, but that's the basics. I've got a couple of small books on the subject. Osprey do one, WWII Infantry Tactics, or something.
