Bit of a poor question but did Germany or any of the Axis powers utilise any type of shotgun? I'm aware that the WW1 German army didn't approve of them (and ordered to shoot American's found using them if i'm not mistaken) but looking around on the internet I can't find much information.

Anyone care to enlighten me?

I'm considering buying a cheapo Shottie from RSOV (£12.99 can't be that bad) which looks a bit like a Winchester for my modern loadout though if I can pass it off with my SS kit then even better! (And thus the fun of customising a cheap shotgun to have mock wood grip and stock).

Cheers folks :D

I cant coment on the efectivness of the cheap shotguns but the TM ones have 3 barrels in them, which means u get 3 bbs coming out each shot, quite fun,

Yeah i've heard positive stuff about TM gun's though I really don't want to spend over £100 on a gun which I may or may not like. £12.99 for something cheap and cheerful is a more sensible option, from what i've read its a pretty sturdy-ish gun, no Marui but its got metal parts and takes magazines so can't be bad.

I'm just curious into whether any shotgun's were used by the German military forces during the war or whether they disliked them as much as their ancestors in the first world war.

Only people who ever seemed to use Shotguns as a combat weapon during WW2 were the Yanks - though im not entirely sure that its strictly by the Geneva Convention!

Neither is killing civilians but it hasn't stopped armies past and present! I'm sure the ordinary soldier recognised the potential of the shotgun and thought "oh go on then nobody will know" *cha-ching* *BANG* .

America didn't bother too much with the Geneva Convention in both World Wars, except for the treatment of prisoners and such.
Flamethrowers, Napalm and Shotguns.

As far as I know some German and Italian officers did carry shotguns but only to go hunting when they were off-duty, not in combat. Though as soon as I say "Never" or "Always" someone pops up with a picture ;)

Triple Barrel or Quad Barrel shotguns aren't that far-fetched, there are some hunting shotguns that feature 2 barrels with shot and 1 or 2 barrels for a .22 caliber round for smaller and slow prey. I'm just not sure they existed as far back as WW2 though.

The Resistence made extensive use of shotguns, going as far as producing them themselves. "Schrootbuks" I think the Germans called them. If "Schroot" refers to the scrap it's made of or the scrap it fires, I don't know.

i dont see much difference between a shotgun or auto rifle, both are inhumane

to be honest if i had to go, the quicker the better, 7.62 hits hard and exits, leaving a 2 inch tunnel of jelly behind it (3 inch if the bullet tumbles or distorts), 5.56/5.45 tends to hit bones and riqouchet, leaving a 1 inch tunnel of jelly

i saw an RMP guy in ireland 5 minuites after his mate ND`ed in to him (negligent discharge of weapon)
we were called out to keep the crowds back,

afterwards the word is

the bullet went in his back, missed everything vital, hit the inside of his ribs, then bounced back, through his heart, instant death

his mate was "showing a kid how the sa80 worked" and accidentally pulled the trigger, sods law it was pointing at his mates back.

all guns are inhumane, the geneva convention just trys time limit damage.

Agreed completely, I generally disagree with weapons of mass destruction. Anything that kills millions of innocent civilians is just plain wrong. Wars nasty stuff but its better to keep it on the battlefield between armies/insurgents/etc armed with rifles and grenades then wipe out the entire planet like some nightmarish cold war vision.

Please guys stop using Sven Hassel as reference material!!!!

I have various books on Axis Small arms (German language, original and post war) and there is no mention of shotguns used by Armed Forces in them
I have lists of issued weapons - No shotguns feature amongt them.

Germans have a strict code of hunting. I haev read two accounts of NCOs and an Officer having a sporting shotgun (side by side) with them and using it behind the lines to bring down game to eat.
The three barrelled weapons you mention are "drillings" Used in hunting such things as Boar. Peculiarly German they feature as said two smoothbore barrels usualy of 12g and an under barrel of smaller calibre but rifled.....

Now Captured weapons are a different fish.....

LOOK! I ham now four meggle man!

on a seroius note, we all know sven is a load of old bollox, but most of the guys in the 27th pzr are trying to recreate the charicters from the book  .

so when we use it as "reference" its very tonge in cheek.

thanks for you info though |PD, id like my panzer outfit to be in fitting with the ww2 period, but with sven hassel accesorys as well
