OK, I have done quite a bit of searching online, and only found more confusion, so I am going to ask boffins here if I may.
I am looking about to try and find something that would adequately represent the 'shell' of a radio that the German army would have used.
Ideally at company/platoon level but, given the general lack of radios at this level, any would do. It is obviously for use in airsoft and would need any internals ripping out so anything that is really 'collectable/rare/expensive' would be foolish. The German army also had the old backpack radios, but it doesn't matter if it is 'not a backpack'
Does anybody make repros of the shells of these radios for re-enactors? Also does anyone know of any post war variants that could be got hold of cheaply that are similar to their wartime counterparts?
If all else fails, what would be close enough that anyone who knew anything about the German army would vomit on seeing it, but someone who watched the Longest Day once would think looked all right?
So if anyone could point me to a retailer, or a certain make that sounds useful from my garbled post it would be appreciated.
As far as I'm aware most German radios were about the size of a large tea chest and therefore mostly used for vehicle-to-vehicle communication. Infantry used field telephones that were only the size of a small tea chest.
PM me - I have lots of info
Something like this doesn't seem to horribly difficult to botch
Dave B has a real one:
Actually his Torn.Fu Transceiver is a reproduction. His Torn.Eb Receiver is real however.
Wladek - you'll need some Nachrichten Funksprech LehrgΓΒ€ngen ![]()
This is what you want Craig:
Feld Fu.b tornister mounted Radio.

The same casing was also used for the Frankfurt 42 Mine detector equipment. The nice thing with these is they hook onto the Y-strap D rings with the same fitting as an A-frame so it would be easy to butcher a cheap A-frame to make the mounts!
This is another of those little projects I have on the back burner, If only we could have a 48 hour day!
Loads more info a piccies here:

Γ’β¬ΕI wanted to come to the Volga at a specific location at a specific city. By chance it carries the name of Stalin himself. So donΓ’β¬β’t think I marched there for this reason Γ’β¬β it could carry another name Γ’β¬β but because there is a very important goal... this goal I wanted to take Γ’β¬β and you know Γ’β¬β we are very modest, we have it already."

"Comrades, Red Army men, commanders and political workers, men and women guerrillas! It is on your perseverance, staunchness, fighting skill and readiness to discharge your duty to the country that the defeat of the German-fascist army and the liberation of the Soviet land from the Hitlerite invaders depend! We can and must clear the Soviet land of Hitlerite vermin."

boyeee
AYE !! Morse up u motherfunkers !!
Nice looking units and if anyone does consider getting some and converting the to modern use I'd be interested in buying one. I'm seriously considering getting a UHF set up fpr marshalling my site so we dont get burn out from local motorcycle instructors and local kids with PMR's. I think I have to rent a channel for a couple of years and provide the radios etc but I do know it's transferreable, so for example If AGS were running a game at Tudders on such and such a date I can transfer my usage to there for that period of time.
So if the units could be built to take PMR Kenwoods / Motorolas and UHF radios, that would be very versatile.

Have a look at the General Commercial license (or whatever they call it now). It's cheap and gives you lots of rarely used channels to use, no clashing with PMRs!
There's no need to rent radios, just buy a few on the correct frequency. I actually have one of these licenses for use with radios for when my wargames club runs public shows. But I also get to use them when airsofting if needed.
