Splinter camouflage was used by the Heer and the Luftwaffe - not the Waffen-SS. Okay, there are minor differences between the Splinter used by the Heer and the Luft, but its a very minor difference. Get the trousers, remove the thigh pockets and you're good to go :)

Me, I think it'll look great :D

You could get a camo top and wear with Feldgrau trousers. I would suggest Spearhead Militaria on ebay for that.

The HG Division were a little unusual in being issued various SS Camo patterns not seen on other non-SS troops. Mostly I believe in smocks and helmet covers rather than the full works.

Look here for a bit of info: http://www.kamouflage.net/camouflage/00136/en_index.php

So if you want camo but don't want SS maybe that's an option.

Personally I went for a bunch of OakA stuff(trews, tunic, smock, cap, helmet cover) and am doing a SS Hohenstaufen loadout but also have on the way a plain pair of trousers and a fliegerbluse tunic with which I'll wear the same Oak A smock and Helmet cover when I want to be HG.

Andy

ps I was a bit concerned about going SS at first too.

The nice folk at Flecktarn do splinter BDU trousers. You can soon whip the pockets off and they are then not that far from the real deal.

well i havnt posted in this thread for ages, i thought id give an update of how my loadout has come on,

there have been a few changes since what i originally set out to make, but i think it will look good once its finished.

so changes.

camo patter : flecktarn had run out of trousers in splinter in my size, so i changed pattern to BGS
"SS" smock, im part way through making this as it looks quite cool.

anyway heres some work in progress pics, enjoy, constructive critisism extreemly welcome

there is no insignia on the feldgrau jacket as yet but as i said work in progress.

Looks good to me. One point though, Gaiters are on the wrong legs - the strap should point towards the rear, and on the outside of the leg.

Seeing the whole ensemble, shows just how close to some of the WW2 patterns the BGS camo is.
