I have bought a 1942 stamped kar 98 bayonet and scabbard, for the really low price of £28 quid. perfect condition, so very pleased. I'm looking for any information regarding Kar 98 bayonets.

Good effort mate, was it eBay.de? I'm after one of these to.

What is it you'd like to know?

I'll be collecting it tomorrow, so I'll get some pics up in a few days. Really I'm interested in who made them, markings, ect. Any information really, as they are something I know very little about.

regarding ebay there are a few in edged weapons, both wooden and balkelit hand grips. I also saw a dress bayonet there.

Pic now up. Pat :D

This I have to admit is a very nice item. It has a matched scabbard, serial number 1991 and marked P.Weyersberg. It has very slight pitting on the blade but apart from that in perfect condition. the release catch works perfectly and still has traces of the gun oil used to lubricate it.
the scabbard is marked 1991 on one side and 1940 on the other.

What is the difference between this and a "real" K98 one?

Most obvious is the muzzle ring

I'm no expert at all, but from the little reseach I have done, I believe that this is an Isralie Kar bayonet. the ring was added to increase stability. the stamp I'm not sure about. P

The seller knows his stuff - he says they all fit the K98, but many different varients were produced in various countries.

I used to have one and it did fit my K98 but was a tight fit.

You could always grind the ring off i suppose?
