I'm new to WW2 airsoft (and airsoft in general, been playing since January) and I'm looking to start playing as a German. I'm 15 so money is tight, and I've spotted a seller on eBay selling the M36 tunic and trousers for £65 total.
Can anyone give an opinion on these? Please bare in mind that I have practically no money.

P.S. slightly off topic but thinking guns, do any event organisers prohibit two-tone weapons?

Anyway here is the link to the tunic and trousers: http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/WW2-German-M36-Field-Tunic-Unform-Including-Trousers-S-M-L-XL-XXL-XXXL-/251129024323?pt=UK_Period_Theatre&var=&hash=item3a7874cf43#ht_4086wt_1139

If anyone could give any info on sizes that would also be appreciated. I'm 32 waist and 34 leg, but the sizes aren't 'leg' they're 'length', and I know these trousers are supposed to go up to about your belly button.

Thanks.

two tones wouldn't fit in at all at ww2 events.
however lots of people would loan out a realistic period looking weapon. (usually on a pay if you break it basis)

Thanks for the info. What do you think about the M36 stuff?

Colour does not look right, for starters. I think you would be better off either saving up a bit and spending a little more money. Epic Militaria does very decent wool items at an affordable price.

Definitely check the For Sale section here on a daily basis if you can. I have already missed out on a couple of really good deals because I was not able to check newly posted items that day. Added bonus is that a tunic bought off the forums will probably already have insignia put on.

I bought my officers tunic/breeches from this guy. Its obviously a lot cheeper than Sturm uniforms but not bad quality considering the low price. Cant speak for the standard m36 but the officers kit he was selling matched up well for colour. :good:

I'd avoid that ebay retailer - they aren't a militaria specialist and sell random fashion stuff. There are two good retailers of German kit in the 'Market Place' on this forum who should be your first port of call if you don't know much about what you are buying (or wait until some second hand stuff pops up for sale).

If you are short of cash then save your money to buy decent kit when you can afford it - in the meantime if you go to Gunman's November game you can get a uniform for FREE hire, and you can't get much cheaper than that.

Words of advice:

It is very tempting to get stuck in and buy something straight away, but if you are on a budget it does not make sense to buy the cheapest thing you can find RIGHT NOW. There is a good chance you will end up spending your money on something you are not going to be happy with as you gain more knowledge about the uniforms and equipment. Take your time, do your research, hunt around and just buy kit as and when you can afford it. You are going to be much happier with the end result! :good:

Thanks for all of your advice everyone, I'll not buy the eBay stuff and I'll try and borrow kit for my first game. I'll also keep an eye out on the sales section of the forum!

Or, maybe look at buying just one piece of kit like a jacket, and using borrowed or looks-like trousers. It is worth getting a decent pair of trousers when you can afford it as they get a lot of wear and tear.

Just to update, I've found the website which the eBay tunic+trousers are from. It's here: http://www.militariaonline.com/ww2-german-m36-field-tunic-unform-including-trousers-p-192.html?zenid=rqlp7m4fsj5k6vlaci0e9fgk12

Still the same opinions? The website looks a bit sparse, and there aren't any reviews. It might just be new, the product was only added just over a month ago.

looking at the inside of the jacket there's no internal suspenders for your belt hooks :? these alone will set you back another £15 to £20

I seem to remember someone saying that shop sold rebranded Spearhead kit. if there is any truth in it then it looks likely to be their older kit which won't be quite as good as the newer stuff. The unifom itself would probably be ok but I can't vouch for the shop in the slightest.

Only M42 tunics have built in internal suspenders for belt hooks and I don't know of any retailers that sell M36s/M40s that come complete with the suspenders. Besides not many people actually use them anyway.

Does the colour look wrong to you? £65 just seems like such a steal... you're looking at something like £75 just for the trousers!

Are the suspenders not necessary then?

I think what we are all saying is you get what you pay for (more often than not and all things being equal) and therefore whatever you pay you will be taking a gamble. Can you afford to fork out £75 (don't forget the postage) for a pile of crap? If you aren't that bothered about the quality of construction or fit or authenticity of cut then go for it - it certainly looks like a German uniform and therefore might entirely meet your expectations and needs. (By the way, the seller says the uniform looks more greenish than the pictures show.)

If you are worried about sizing then contact the seller with your measurements and ask then to recommend a sizing for you.

I'm going to contact the seller and find out
1) where he's got these from
2) why they're considerably cheaper than anywhere else
3) the actual colour of the uniform
4) how they fit

Just for future reference, and so that people can find this information through Google the name of the eBay shop is discountandsavings. The name of the website is MilitariaOnline.

Ahem... :wife:

My first uniform was from Spearhead, but it was a bit thin compared to others I've had since. You could try Gavin Militaria. http://www.gavinmilitaria.com/ They're reasonably priced, and good quality. I have had quite a few tunics over the years, but I rate my GM one as the best I've had. They do take a few weeks to deliver, but if you're not in a hurry, it's worth the wait.

How did you find the GM tunics and trousers fitted? I'm unsure what size to go for, as thing rarely fit me straight away. Did you have yours tailor made by them?

Pretty sure that isn't their website - either that is their supplier who drop ship (eek, no address, email or even telephone number) or the website they stole the photo from! As said before, that ebay seller sells handbags and fashion jewellery - they are not a militaria specialist, just shift cheap random tat.

You're right, that website does offer dropshipping so that's probably what this eBay seller is doing. It's even the same description etc.

Fitted me fine. They give you the actual measurements of each size. Note that a WWII German tunic does not fit like a modern jacket. The sleeves should end on the wristbone, and the "skirt" should be on the short side. I see you're tall and slim, so you might want to specify different lengths, but it appears to only be another $8 to do that.
