Needs a drum mag to reduce its height when used prone?

It's pretty disgusting to be honest isn't it.

Did any attachments for the MP38/MP40 actually exist? Drum mags, suppressors, sights?

No, I don't think so, customisable weapons weren't very big in the 1940s. Apart from the MP44 with its jazzy IR night sights and curved barrel for shooting around corners :)

NApart from the MP44 with its jazzy IR night sights and curved barrel for shooting around corners :)

I thought you were being sarcastic there... but apparently not! That IR sight takes the mick, having a massive backpack just to power the thing!

If battery technology hadn't moved on, thank you the scientific method, then you would need such a backpack to run your AEG.

but apparently not

Oooh no, never I joke about late war German wunder-waffen. All a bit too bleeding edge to make any difference of course.
