£890 is waaaaaay too much for a "relic" helmet (unless it belonged to Rommel!).

You'd need to see the stampings to verify authenticity.

As Sgt Heide said, even assuming that those helmets are originals, those are vastly inflated prices to be charging.

Regarding your question 4: Are you talking about a helmet for reenactment / airsoft ? If so, I'd recommend Spearhead Militaria on ebay, which would be 1/10th of the price.

Well, Richard Underwood sells refurbished shells (albeit with a new, repro liner) for £110.

As for pictures of stamps, if I was even thinking of spending £800+ on a relic, I'd ask for some clear, close up photos of the markings on the helmet, liner and chinstrap.

I'd be VERY wary of anything sold on ebay for that kind of money.

How will you know if it's genuine until you've already paid for it?

Some people like to collect original memorabilia but to me it's sort of disrespectful to use this stuff for airsofting. Take the helmet you've shown - if it really is genuine, do you want to play an airsoft game wearing the lid of a man who died with it on his head in a real war? Turning it into a toy makes a mockery of the man's sacrifice.

EDIT: I once bought a job lot of 'nam dated Mitchell helmet covers, one of which actually had bloodstains on it. How could I ever use that for airsofting??

That's just my opinion and others may disagree, but for what we do I think it's better to collect originals but wear repros.

Don't you have militaria fairs in Indonesia? Much easier to handle and examine the goods before parting with your money.

For nearly £900 i would expect a near mint ORIGINAL helmet with decals and definately not one of those even if they are 100% authentic

I always wonder, did the war only happen in Normandy and the Ardennes?
Dug ups and barn finds only ever come from those places.
£100 is about tops for a relic I think. More than that and you are looking at good shells that can be refurbed,
Relics have never lit my candle, I'd rather pay more for a preserved version that I might usefully display or even use.
Some folk love them, each to their own.
