Slightly off topic here but have any of you guys worn your full axis kit to a regular open day. Have you got any funny looks or people questioning it? Now I have my full kit (well at least 2/3rds of the way to a full impression) and rifle I want to use it as often as possible (I mainly play down south not at First and Only) but dont want to get into an argument with some small minded fool every time im suited and booted.

Since I swapped sides I've only played in German kit three times - not had a problem (yet), quite the opposite.

In fact I would quite relish an argy-bargy with said small minded individual, hating small-minded people, jobs-worths and the politically correct. (Sorry, getting to be a grumpy old man - and loving it! :D )

Having said that, it can be a bit incongruous - I played off and on for two years in US WW2 kit and unless there are others in period kit it doesn't fit too well with a sea of DPM.

Still, the more you wear WW2 kit, the more people are going to get interested and find out more!

So true... I'd love to see players in WW2 kit take over from the endless armalites and delta impressions... though it is nice to be the odd one out... You get so many nice complements! :)

Personally I wear my brit kit a hell of a lot on open days and will continue to do so except at games where it is entirely inappropriate... (eg Black Hawk Down at LFU)

I've been playing in period kit for about 4 years now and have 'turned' numerous people to the dark side.

Well personally im pretty much off open days lately owing to the ammount of ridiculous cheating you get compared to booked in theme events of any type.

I'd rather save my cash and have a really good days play than play every week or so and get hacked off like i was doing.

So its not an issue, besides i have enough outfits now to be in theme for more or less any specific day.

I dont know if i'd wear my airborne kit outside of a WWII event though as its a bit pricy to get too wrecked and i need it for re-enacting shows.

Depends where I'm playing and who with . No- if with regular team as we have a set uniform and weapons . On open days - yes ,

Still, the more you wear WW2 kit, the more people are going to get interested and find out more

Totally agree, seeing & talking to Yith in his full Chindit gear at an F&O open day got my interest up, and here I am six months later with load outs for both WWII sides , thoroughly enjoying the dark side .

Apart from the odd mick take about "ze germans" I've not had any bad experience to date . I did have personal reservations about portraying the SS, hence Wehrmatch load out , but TBH I've yet to meet anyone who was offended by it , so press on, wear your feldgrau with pride and spread the word. As this event shows there are far more people out there interested in WWII than I would have suspected a year ago, I suspect there are lots more but they just think it doesn't happen and never go for it .

Anything to reduce the obsession with armalites the better .

Clearly you've been going to the wrong open days... ;)

Thanks for the input guys - I will definitely be in full kit next open day!

On the subject of cheating: I used my Kar for the first time last week and had a great time, though it was marred by 2 incidents. I was really happy with my kill count for the day - it wasnt incredibly massive at 7 but it was more than I was killed myself and each hit was oh so satisfying - especially against the Hi-cap spray and pray-ers (I found it also teaches patience and to wait for just the right moment). However I definitely hit 2 more guys who both didnt take their hits - 1 of them was in an entrenched position who didnt realise I had got behind him - I just knelt there and shot that sucker 3 times and he clearly felt them because he kept hunching lower in his position obviously not realising I could see him completely clearly. After a few seconds his mates realised I was there and hosed me down - and this really hacks me off, although I put my hands up and said hit they kept shooting me for like 8 seconds - probably the end of their mags - I was just shouting HIT HIT HIT HIT - that really pissed me off no end. Assholes.

I cant say i've had any hassle for wearing my FJ gear. Yes, I get a few questions, but thats about it. It's different, and its the total antithesis of the Modern US SF look i used to do :)

When we were an Empire it was run by an Empress

I see no difference from a Waffen-SS and modern kit. Both are the uniforms of jobbing soldiers who were fighting for what they believed was a worthy and just cause.

Now if someone turned up in a Allgemain SS uniform, goose stepping and saluting to the Fatherland I'd probably have a few words to say. ;)

I always used to wear "terrorist outfits" just to stand out

and my infamous ali g outfit....(white shell suit, gold bike chain, and mac 11)

or flecktarn with my G3

ive always been against the SAS/Delta look.

too many wannabe andy mctwats out there in my eyes.

also not keeen on the "bodyguard/merc " look... again good when a few did it, but all the wannabes then copyed, and now every 1 runs round in jeans and fleece.

ww2 is just so different, youve got little difference in choice, just choose side really, so people look more like a team or group.'

most open days look like a mercanary convention run by 1 or 2 teams of DELTA/SAS/BODYGUARDS

I remember at my first skirmish there were a couple of lads in WW2 gear, one U.S. and one German. It was an eye opener as I thought of airsofters as a "DPM brigade". Maybe some form of shoulder flash such
as "Comrades in Arms Association" is in order ? :)

I normally play in an eastgerman nvr ddr kit which I got when I started airsofting It is great as no-one else has it, other than that I play in a waffen SS oakleaf A I always wear one of the two and I get a lot of interest. I always admire people who go to a lot of trouble to get their gear right. To me being an ex model builder it is part of the fun...

I was the first WW2 airsofter at CommandO Skirmishes in Belgium. My kit was rubbish, but eventually grew out to a proper US impression. At some point I was dragged into WW2 re-enactment.
These days a few more guys do themed airsofting at Commando's site. Some Aircav and Some 506th Airborne. We even had a few guys in Fallschirmjaeger kit.

I'll probably be visiting the site during a game next weekend, to conduct some capitalist business with my Vietnamese Comrade VC Nr1.

I'm very interested in heading to the Arnhem day - I have a WGC MP40, Tanaka Luger but my clothing/equipment is either early WWII or '44 based Fallschirmjager get up.

This would be the first time wearing 'out' lol as i have just recently aquired the kit due to the release of the MP40 AEG.

anyone think there would be a problem turning up as an FJ?

Absolutely no problem at all, we are delighted you have kit and want to play! The WW2 games could be any period of the war - it would be asking a bit much for players to not only turn up in WW2 kit but a specific period too! Some of course will be unable to resist the temptation to get it right and have been sorting out new kit  , either way it doesn't matter - no one will judge you or even tut behing your back  hoorah for you.

Our games are about suspension of belief, not historical re-enactment and it would be just great if you sign up - it's going to be a cracker of a day.

This is my 1st WWII game, and as far as i am concerned the regulars are more than helpful and will offer help and advice freely, you have obviously made an effort with your kit, so you will be made welcome.I was originally going to come as a look alike? but got the bug and also got a german load out so roll on Arnhem and to justify the exspense looks like i will have to go to more events.

I've paid the deposit via paypal - so i guess I'm there - can't wait.

Hopefully the fliegerblouse will have turned up by then and i can get the insignia attached prior to 'battle day'
