Well, I've been working my way up to it, raising my sideburns centimetre by centimetre, back and sides getting shorter and shorter, despite my barber not understanding what look I was trying to achieve. Then I finally saw a photo in the paper of David Beckham's new haircut, which is a definite throwback to the 40s / 50s (apart from the poncy spikey bits on the top), so armed with that I went to the barbers on Saturday....!

I await to see the reaction from my workmates (I'm on holiday today), but Frau Steiner isn't too impressed. At least it's not as extreme as Dalby's! The top is still far too short, but I'm going to grow that.

Who's next for the haircut challenge? :box:

Hah, well done. My, what a change from just a few months ago!

(I'd have a go but it would be a lost cause I'm afraid, I have to settle for short all over. )

Definitely something the Feldgendarmerie should be enforcing - far more important than issuing parking tickets. :P

Bugger off!

To be honest, i'd be fairly happy with a 40's cut, but the missus has spelt out in no uncertain terms i'd be dumped if i got one!

would a haircut like this be jerry enough?

http://s23.photobucket.com/albums/b355/ ... 5f7689.jpg

i have been thinking of gettin mine done in this style but it would make a drastic change from my current messy, backcombed, and gothy victorian madman hair and look i usually have :?

I'm always amazed at period of soldier's snaps taken both here in the UK and Germany and all places in between. They show huge tousled mops of hair that often look quite outrageous even by today's (back combed Goth :D ) hairstyles! While having a short back and sides many left a lot on top that would be pomaded down neatly when needs-be. But when larking about or at work and filthy dirty and without headgear said mops are pretty impressive. So, short back and sides was prevalent everywhere as a 1940s hair style although many Germans took the sides up even higher with a distinct step between the short and long hair. This looks rather severe for 'normal' modern haircut to my eyes but that's just me (I don't know why but it reminds me on lunatic asylum inmates).

So yes, that photo shows short back and sides, and seems to be the current hair style of choice for youth today at the moment - my 20 year old son came back from the hairdressers with a 1940's hair cut just last week! (But without the curly hair and soppy, mournful expression that photo you show has :giggle: )

hair styles varied during the 40's, there was a tradition but wasnt always kept.
I once grew my hair long and my fring was down to my nose but didnt really help when i was out on the town and you get the odd comment :P

Im in the middle, this photo was taken about 2 years ago, and i heavily brilled it :)
