Frau Steiner said it looked good - so nerrr! I'd better not do any more spraying in the kitchen now she's awake! I still have to apply the main colour and then some acrylic silk varnish to take away the hi-gloss look.

I think he did the kitchen instead with grey undercoat, not quite what she had in mind but its been decorated non the less

Well, here is the super shiny version - man, this paint takes ages to dry - two days and counting. Still need to do the bottom and lift the lid. Colour is Rover Hurricane Grey, recommended by my mate who is a long-time model-maker and reenactor.

Finally, a spray of satin varnish to take off the hi-gloss look, straps on and a new piece of strap for the spring handle (courtesty Mr Dieselmonkey). Just got to ask Frau Steiner to sew it on.

Humbrol Matt 116 is what I use to paint US army helmets
How did you get the textured effect on the left helmet Steve? I tried mixing sand in with my paint, but it didnt work too well.

Thx Webby - I'm absolutely rubbish at anything practical, so it was a major project for me!
My mate Nick did me a 101st helmet, and he used a cork to get a stippled effect.
